Hi everyone.

It's been ages since I last posted here - I've done very little modelling lately, as work has got in the way. Anyway, it's good to be fiddling with bits of plastic again.

My P-47 should really be in the "Nearly finished" section, as I've almost got to the point of priming. Overall, it went together pretty well but there's a couple of issues.

1. The box art shows the plane with bombs and the box-shaped drop tank under the fuselage. That's what I want to build but these are not what comes with the kit. You get two teardrop underwing tanks and rockets, but the belly has the fixings for something to be fitted. I have two suitable bombs from another kit, but no tank. Would anyone have one kicking around, by any chance?

2. The kit was missing the windscreen - I've ordered one from Revell. It's a new mould kit, so I was expecting it to be very good. Sadly, there was a lot of flash and some parts were poorly moulded - the engine cowling for one. You get a highly detailed engine, which I carefully built and painted - shame I had to file so much of it off to fit the cowling.

Lastly, I've gone off the crazy blue paintscheme. I would prefer something mainly NMF, as I've got some new paint to try out.

Has anyone got any suitable decals, please? I'm happy to swap or pay something.

Sorry Tony I can't help with anything you want but will watch this and welcome back

Welcome back Tony. Hope you can resolve your missing kit pieces and some decals soon. Will watch along with Ian.

More progress here.

It's primed and I've sprayed the underside and leading edges in aluminium - had to use a spray can. It looks OK, with just one seam on the underside to deal with. The paint scheme is three shades of blue - sounds like a film title. I tried with the Revell Aqua Color that I had, and I'm not happy with the result, so I've ordered some Vallejo model Color from the shop. There's another thread about brush painting with Revell, and I have to say I will now only use it for small areas.

The pilot is from a Revell RAF set. He fitted in with only lower-leg amputation necessary.

If you're still after some decals Tony, I might have some from a Hasegawa bubbletop somewhere?

Thanks Dubster, but I've gone with the blue scheme now.

My attempts to brush paint the weird blue camo scheme have turned out horrible. Out with the Fairy Power Spray, and it's back to primer. That's the interesting thing, the FPS only took off the acrylic paint, and not the Hycote grey primer or Hycote aluminium.

Time for plan B.

Sure you don't want those decals Tony? ;)

Good luck with Plan B - didn't know he was into modelling! " yeah so man done the cockpit innit! ' ' gotta get the mofo wings joined to the fuselage now blud " :P

Plan B - I can't get my voice that high without surgery. Where is he now anyway? Ripping off great old Northern Soul tunes will only get you so far.

Plan C is persuade the missus that an airbrush would also be great for decorating cakes.
