When I used to build models in my teenage years, I used to prefer military vehicles, for various reasons, including no canopies to mask, and matt finished, so painting is less critical. Also lots of parts for the money, very important on 1/6d a week! Armoured cars had an advantage over tanks in not having tracks.
I'd built several of the Airfix Puma (https://www.scalemates.com/kits/109312-airfix-a01311-german-armoured-car-sd-kfz-234) and dabbled at scratching the various different versions, with turret, different main armament, one-piece mudguards, and so on. So, I was pleased to see a Revell 1/72 kit of the Puma's more modern equivalent, the Luchs, in a local model shop.
I built it at the end of last year, and thought I'd try some of this weathering business - saw a youtube video of one on a German training ground, absolutely covered in light-coloured mud, so I gave it a home-made dark panel line wash, did a little chipping with a metallic pen, then threw some Humbol dust wash at it - possibly a little too much!
