My old 1/144 HMS Snowberry suffered some damage in a house move a few years ago so I decided to have a break from my 1/700 build to do some remedial and upgrade work. The kit was originally built out of the box with just a straight paint job along with a really crappy rigging job, so I am embarking on an upgrade and looking at maybe weathering it. First job, dismount from its stand, removal of all crap rigging and removal of many of the deck rail stanchions (these and the mast were the major casualties).
I am replacing the plastic foredeck stanchions with brass and using the same for the rails as I could not find any suitable gauge thread, in fact I might replace quite a bit of the plastic rods with brass to try and get a better scale appearance.B1CFB1DA-32A4-4B3A-8BFA-B7860BA8FD58.jpeg2BC2F112-4EF6-49D2-847D-46DB5367571B.jpegE89EDED7-C9DA-40DD-A7AB-FA1443F3120C.jpeg
just noticed as I posted these, the anchor chains will have to go for certain!!!!

Snowberry out of dry dock and back on it’s stand.
just waiting for the chain to ‘pickle’ before I add it and need to find the correct gaugeB604A437-7F91-414F-9114-389F2B694C73.jpegCCD8B4E3-33BE-43E1-B005-E80542AEB481.jpegFAE4B2B2-62AC-41D8-B0E3-A7EC98E88196.jpeg9A0DA82C-5DB0-43DA-AD65-21C01EC67341.jpegB371C2F5-2285-414F-BFBF-FE1221EFD995.jpeg of twine for the rigging.

Hi
WELL Graham did this nice little ship get finished ?

hi Chris
sort of
I am trying out a different source for the rigging (the standard available threads are too thin and i am not up to stretching sprue).
I am trying hobby ‘nylon’? Which has some give, but it is really accepting any of the glues in my stockpile.
this is where I am at the moment.

I got so frustrated with it I gave up for a while and moved onto another ‘part finished’ project (the academy kit of HMS Warspite which I started years ago as an out of the box project. started to do a bit of research on various other builds and have now changed direction. Ordered a wooden deck some more PE (railings etc.) and some scratch building, so now it is more of a half way House. Also trying out Colourcoats paints, tha ey are brilliant for airbrushing but I am experiencing issues with brush application. Might start this as a build log coz I seem to be hooked on this particular job at the moment.

Hi Chris
meant that the nylon IS NOT working brilliantly with my glue stock.
I have tried various specialised Cyano glue from collection, all seem to take a overly long time to set.

Nice build Graham, rigged or unrigged, tidy finish and she displays very well. If all else fails you...er...could 'rusty-crusty' her.
