Hi everyone. I know this may seem like a simple question but what is the reason for sanding parts of models?

Primarily sanding is to provide a key for subsequent paint coats.

It could also be to flat an area down to remove any gloss or it may be to level uneven surfaces.

It's a good idea to quickly scuff the parts you're about to paint (after washing the mould release agent off) with some fine sandpaper to give the paint something to "key" into. Obviously take care not to remove any detail from the surface!
