Hi all,

Has anyone ever, or is, building the spitfire 1/24th scale Spifire VB Battle Of Britain RFD, model. I have a problem with the engine fit. The engine seems too big for the inside of the engine cowling, it is pushing the sides out a bit. Any suggestions. I am putting the little electric moter in for some realism later.

Thanks

John.

I'm having trouble with MkVB and Battle of Britain! Is this essentially the same kit as the 1/24 MkI?

Hi Stona,

Thanks for reply. I should have said that its the 'Battle of Britain Memorial Flight' Kit By Airfix.

I think that it is a rework of the Mk1 kit But there are extras in the box to make three different versions.

Different props and spinners guns and canon. There was glue, paint, brushes, small motor and large Decal sheet for the three versions. Bought at the last Duxford airshow for £34.00. I am pleased with the kit for value.

All in all a good kit for the price. But just this problem with the engine, the thin plastic parts under the cowling that hold the panels on are very thin and the engine seems to push these bits out.

I may glue the two fusalage sides together and fit engine cockpit and bulkheads in from underneath rather than trying to join them together in the usual way after all the bits are stuck onto one side.

all the best

John

Hi again John. I built the 1/24 MkI badly many years ago and couldn't get the cowlings to fit properly. There was a book that came out at the time as a companion to the kit which was supposed to be very helpful. I never bought it but I made a note of it somewhere and I'll try to look it up for you. In the end, because I displayed the model "buttoned up", I displayed the engine seperately. Both Spitfire and engine are long gone now, probably lost or broken in a house move.

I remember finding that the wings lacked support and it was hard to maintain the dihedral,I wonder if Airfix have addressed that problem.

Best of luck with it.

Cheers

Steve
