Brilliant Tiger! She looks superb on the water and very realistic. I still enjoy sailing my Type VII when it's relatively calm and I've got a few nice shots of her. Lovely pond you have available as well, just what you want for a nice relaxing sail.

So have we converted you over to the boat side yet or are you still a dedicated tank man that lost his way briefly?!!

My son Tyler absolutely loved it! Didnt want to come home!. At last ive found something to get him off his video games and computer!!

So yes Bunk my old shipmate, i've fully jumped aboard. So smoke me a kipper and sing me a shanty.

Also..so much less hassle than tanks....no mud to clean off no complex circuits (Yet)

Next build is the Revel gato.

Looks great on the water too - I can see why you had to drag your son away from this one, he looks like he was enjoying himself in the pics.

I'm sure our models would look good on the water together. If I could ever tempt you to a model boat event we might make it one day. Tyler would love it and could help you spend a fortune! We have a really good open day at the Kirklees club every year and there are shows at Doncaster and Harrogate out in your direction so maybe I'll get to see it at some point.

The Gato is also a nice model and a bit roomier than the type VII but somehow for me you just can't beat the shape of the type VII.

how long does it take you to build one of them and did you get any ducks

It all depends on how much you want to put into it and how much spare time you have available. I guess I took somewhere in the region of 3-4 weeks on mine but I was at home on leave so working on it most days.

I also added brass etch to mine and a wooden deck, both of which took a bit of time to incorporate, and then added some figures to the bridge which took a couple of hours each.

Bunk did his first and saved me a lot of time with his build thread. the actual build didnt take that long (fitting the rc gear/motors/shafts/ballast and glueing it together). The real lengthy stuff was the painting, trying to get the weathering even near to what Bunk has acheived was a nightmare. After about 100hrs on the model i am in an "It'll do!"

frame of mind.

I agree, the Gato is plain ugly. The extra space inside might let me experiment with a few things i have in mind.

Wow!!!!! Giving up the tanks, you have been bitten bad Tiger. You'll soon be tempted by a Robbe U-47 "Just to get you into it", then the next thing you know you'll be hankering after an Engle type VII (like me!) From there on the ducks don't stand a chance!!

I've actually been saving up for an Engle Type VII for a couple of years from things like eBay sales and articles in magazines but the recent changes in exchange rates has put the price of the Type VII up from 1200.00 pounds a year or so ago to about 2000.00 pounds now. I can't write articles fast enough to keep up.

Ultimately though I want the steam coaster on the water at the same time as the Engle Type VII as they are both 1/35th scale and the same age.

Thats some serious cash bunk! I think i'll stick with the cheap stuff for now, I have been doing some research though.

So what's the going rate for a full option 1/16th Tiger 1 nowadays? I've drooled over the Armourtek stuff for years but it's way out of my price range, apart from which you can never find one to buy anyway. Plus you need a good strong trailer!!

Tiger 1's usually go for around the £150 - £200 mark (exluding the radio gear and in bad to good condition) Extremely good ones (pro weathered, after market parts etc can go anywhere upto £500.

In rare circumstances people do put them up for sale on ebay not knowing their full worth , my altest bargain off fleabay (another Tam Pershing full option was up for £100 on a buy it now. An absolute steal. (all i can think of was the guy must have needed the cash urgently)

.Unfortunately the best way to sell these is to break them up and sell the parts. (Pains me to even think about it!) The control gear, MF & DMD units sell for £120 each on there own.
