Going to have a bash at this, will be attempting to display it as one of the few Churchills that were used in Korea. From research the "Crocodiles" were sometimes disassembled for manouverability and ended up quite shabby by the end of their sericeable life.

Will be modifying it as i go ... for example the tie-ons on the side of the turret are just flat plastic tabs, these will be changed for wire so i can tie on a real roll of fabric/canvass instead of the moulded plastic effort in the kit.

Nice one Colin iv'e been thinking about getting 1 of these so will watch this to see how the kit builds

Don`t forget that by the time they went into combat they had removed the trailers and replaced the flame nozzle with a standard BESA mg.

Thread owner
that's the idea Malcolm. it'll be as used in Korea towards the end of the conflict. they used the flamethrower when they were first shipped out there but the trailer proved to be too cumbersome in the terrain of the theatre and in fact the flamethrower was found to be fairly useless in effectiveness so the decision was made.

one of the first tanks i built somewhere in my mom and dads loft...look forward to seeing you build this beast

Thread owner
so then ... built a bit up today and gave it a base coat .....

There's some nice detail on the hull to emphasise .... suspension should look better with some further painting & weathering

View attachment 58116View attachment 58117

Got the suspension and wheels painted up and added the "worn effect" will weather it as per my usual when it's fully built and i know what substrate i'm using for the ground.

thanks Ian.... so far its a lovely kit to put together... can't see the rest of it being any different.... i'd just go and buy one if I were you :) .

also just noticed you get five figures in the kit ... not four as per the box text..... bonus:)

A very good start like always Colin. I wondering myself which fantastic tank you will do this time!

Just reading up on this tank Colin, did'nt realize it was considered an'infantry' tank, in all honesty I'm not well read on armor anyway. I did'nt know there were male and female tanks until joining this forum. Off to a great start so far!

What name are you putting on yours?

I`ve named mine Gynaeolator. (means Worshiper of Women)

Thread owner
I seem to remember reading in a Korean Armour book one being called "Cygnet"

I think i may go with that :)

Thread owner
Remember, C SQN 7 RTR had names beginning with the letter `G`.

Heres a few Croc names from Korea....

Glynis, George, Gerald, Gynaeolator,

I`ll have a look for some others.

Malc.

Thread owner
yep you're right Malcolm. it was Glynis ... there's another picture with "cygnet" hand painted on one of the trailers ... knew it had a "y" in it :) :)

Well have progressed some but haven't updated so here it is in order .... don't get too bored:)

Got the wheels, suspension and frames put together and splashed a basecoat and first stage weathering on them, added the wheel assemblies to the lower hull and wacked the tracks on after a pre weather and paint

View attachment 58393View attachment 58395View attachment 58396View attachment 58397

Exhaust and heat shield painted and rusted up suitably

View attachment 58394

added all the hatches and side louvres to the hull

View attachment 58398View attachment 58399

Got the turret together, shaved the tabs off and added some bent wire to simulate the tie-downs better (and be useable for later in the build)

View attachment 58400View attachment 58401View attachment 58402View attachment 58403

Got the mini bunsen out and added some dents and creases to the hull for a bit of battle damage.

View attachment 58404View attachment 58405View attachment 58406View attachment 58407View attachment 58408View attachment 58409

added some decals and used a paint pen to add name and numbers for that hand-painted look..... Starting to look like a tank now.

Next up is all the little extras like tools, lights and everything else i can scratch buld before starting on the figures and little diorama.

Hi. I'm just watching suspension and rollers system. It's a completely different invention to others European WW2 tanks. Keep going. I like this machine. Regards. Bart.
