Hi Tiger experts, I noticed that my Friul tracks are for use with the mid to late model , on the Tamiya kit I have the option of differing sprockets according to the model being either 1943 or 1944 .
I had chosen the 1943 model.
the instruction booklet gives a date of 1943 as early , now confused if I fit the sprocket the tracks won't fit. If this the case I shall have to go for a later 1944 version.

Any advice would be welcome.

Hi John,
From what I remember, tiger 332 was produced in March ‘43 and had domed sprocket hubs...( part number B10 )
They started to machine them Flat in April ‘43.... but these aren’t included in the kit only the late star shaped hubs.

Both types of sprockets in the kit have the same teeth configuration. I believe it had early/mid tracks (?) So either should work with your tracks? I used early tracks on mine because that’s what I had!

Si is correct in what he says about the 332 being made in March 1943. They would have been issued with the early sprocket and early tracks which are these ones




You have the mid to late version



As these things cost a lot of money, you will probably want to go for the later version sprocket B3 and B4 (If the friuls fit on them of course) and just live with it or go through the drama of doing all the changes on the kit to make it a late Tiger

it’s only the sprocket hubs which differ from early to late the teeth are arranged the same way on both so either late or early tracks should fit the kit fine.

Only difference between early and late tracks was the late had ice cleats cast into them.

Hi Si and Lord of the South:smiling2: appreciated you both coming back to the aid of the none converted. You can understand why I like Russian armour, very few mods. I've always found the German variants confusing to say the least.
I might there for go for one of the two later 1944 models, but didn't want to have to do that camo, but if need must then so be it. Suppose it could take place in Berlin if that was historically correct.
Will make a start tomorrow,going through the instructions and highlighting the sections I need to be sure off .

There are cases of tank crews in October of 1943 when the new tracks came in with cleats, of changing them over from the older style tracks. If someone else can confirm this then you have your get out clause. Tiger 332 was given the new tracks in October 1943 and the crew changed them over just in time for it to enter your street scene dio???

Its so easy to get bogged down with this finer detail stuff. Just crack on and enjoy the build and enjoy making that street scene as it will be epic. Whole books have been written on the changes to the Tiger I . Don't let it ruin your modeling experience here mate.
I really like Mr. Jones theory of the track change, can't confirm it but the chances it did occur at least once, I think would be enormous.
