The mighty Tiger I and the Sherman. Some light weathering with acrylic steel and some matt black on Tiger, I also matt blacked the barrel to show it was mine.

I'm probably gonna get my rear chewed here but I'm sure I read somewhere although there was nothing really available to the allies early on to compete with the 88mm fired from Tiger.

Wasnt the later Sherman's fitted with the heavier 76mm? And also the Firefly which although could not kill a Tiger but make him think twice about shooting more? After all their were a lot more Sherman's in Europe after D-day

Well. we had some issues in frequency, couldn't run both together, a change in crystals for the Sherman and both are running together.

We had them out and had a small battle: Pleased to report that first blood went to the Tiger...laddo was not happy:D

IIRC the Tiger was able to withstand a frontal assault from the Sherman's 75mm and the Cromwells 75mm, even the T-34's 76mm. But later variants of the Sherman 76mm , and the 86mm T-34 could do serious damage. Main issue with the Tiger was its over-engineering, making it expensive and complicated to maintain. reliability was not bad but once a problem did occur it was a pain to fix. Also as the war went on getting parts into the field was problematic. Fuel consumption was also poor so as that dwindled the Tiger was knackered as it couldn't venture far.

Righto, just had a 1 hour battle.

SCORE:

TIGER got 4 kills and one crew captured. I hit where his driver is and knocked it out, he then ran out of ammo and surrendered, then I finished off the Sherman.

SHERMAN got 5 kills and one damaged, he hit the turret ring part but I managed to get away and back to maintenance area.

Great fun and something me and laddo could do.

Just a quick note Si ( my wife and I visited Normandy couple of years a go and I remember ( think it was sword beach they had installed a 88mm from a tiger in a casemate but from what the guide told us the British went round it and knocked it out without the 88 ever getting a shot off!!!
