Can anyone help please.

I was helping my Mam clean out the attic and we can across an pld tin/steel? plate car. I remember playing with it when I was very young, eight or nine years old.

I seem to remember that it was a gift to me from my grand parents, they used to go on bus trips all over Europe, and I think this came from Germany?

On the botton are some pressed in words, DBP-Foreign patents-made in Western Germany, which makes me think it was made after WW2 and a triangular trade mark with a name I can't read. There is also a stamped mark which says Sole distributer for USA, Flare Inport Corp, New York

As you can see it is well loved (quite damaged), I'm not interested in selling it either, just looking to find out a bit about it.

Thanks for looking and here's hoping for some info about a loved childhood toy.

Attachments don't work for me either, I'm afraid. My father and I have a number of books on tin-plate and I'll see what I can find out but, not wishing to be nosey, would you have been 8 or 9 in the 50s, 60s, 70s or 80s?

Just remembered - Arnold Toys had a logo of a triangle with a line through it.

Yes that's the Arnold logo underneath but what an odd looking car

Hope you've got the remote control, these go for £200 - £300 in auctions

No remote control Andy, no engine either, it's a free wheeler. I seem to remember that the steering wheel used to turn the front wheels, but it was too well loved and didn't survive .

Yes, sounds like most of my toys and I always had to take them apart to see how they worked, got a slap if I couldn't put them back together again too

Thanks for the info guys. I found one on Evilbay, lots of money, but in lots better condition than mine.

That's a strange beast - it's probably late 50s or 60s since it's not stamped US Zone as the earlier models would have been. But then it's a model of a vehicle with a dickey seat - so probably a re-issue of a pre-war model.

It looks like it should clean up quite nicely. I take it the graphics are your own addition... :smile:

No Geoff, this is how it was when I got it, and the one on evilbay looks the same, so I think this is what it looked like when sold.

I wont be doing any "upgrades" on it as I think it looks OK as it is.

Maybe just clean it up and put it on display, think that'll be good after so many years stuck in the attic.
