I am slowly creeping along with a 1/24 Hellcat and at the painting stage. The scheme I have chosen is all over gloss blue with the Pacific theatre roundel and bar. For this scale of build I’m going to try painted on insignia instead of decals so have the Top Notch set.
My question is whether to paint the white insignia on over the blue or spray white where the insignia will be, apply the masks then the gloss blue.
Painting logic suggests light colours first but I’m not so sure.
@barry - your advice would be most welcome as I know you’re experienced in this area but any informed wisdom is appreciated.

My guess would be to spray the white first.

No experience with these masks Rick, but I would think it best to paint the white first

Hi Rick

Mostly yes the lighter shade first. For the white though try spraying the MRP white primer first as it covers better.

(Likewise the sand primer for yellow.)

Just take your time and make sure the edges are burnished down with a cocktail stick. I have not used Topnotch before but if they are vinyl be particularly careful. One further thing, spray in many very light coats directly down. It is best avoiding heavy wet coats.

I hope that helps.
