discussion Trumpeter Razor Saw

Hi I know John sells Trumpeter and Tamiya saws in his shop but has anyone used one and which would they recommend? I need to cut the wing tip landing lights off the P47 I'm building and replace them with clear plastic parts.

I use a Tamiya razor saw for general stuff like removing resin casting blocks and it works very well.

For very fine stuff I use one of Radu Briznan's fine saws from RB Productions. You need to buy his "handle" to hold the very fine blade as well. It's a bit of a do screwing the thing together but you can make very fine cuts.

Vaughan. I have the Trumpeter saw. A couple of blades. Would not say it was a very fine toothed saw but works well. Blades are very simple to change just a sprung slide. One of the blades is a very neat thing easy to get into difficult areas. The other a more robust blade.

Just to add that with the Trumpeter you will have to undercut then finish to fine points with a file or a blade sander.

Thanks Guys so would they be fine enough to cut the landing lights or do I need a finer saw? Steve what did you use to cut your landing light on your P47.

That was probably one of the RB Productions saws.

Vaughan. To date I have only used the saw for cutting strips of plastic with out any great accuracy.

But just had a couple of goes at cutting into an old wing & very surprised the cut was perfect. Provided you are accurate & careful the cut is clean & not ragged as I had suspected.

Thanks for the info Laurie. I will admit that I ordered the Trumpeter saw from evilbay(sorry John) it did work out a bit cheaper than The Shop but might still buy another finer saw, will see what the Trumpeter one's like first.
