discussion welding joints.....

I'm about to start work on an M1127 Stryker (RV) in 1/35th, the plans seem pretty straight forward & the parts are highly detailed, to add more detail to the finished model I want to add 'weld' beads, what is the simplest & easiest way to do this? someone suggested excess glue & a cocktail stick to make it look like a weld joint but I've been un-successful so far.

Hi Ben, the most common way to add weld beads is to use either stretched sprue or thin plastic rod, stick it where needed, then add liquid cement to soften it & use a knife to add the texture. I find this complicated & tend to get the glue where it shouldn't go! I've found it easier to use Miliput by rolling it into very thin strings, apply it & add the texture with a small jewellers screwdriver tip. The advantages are that Miliput sticks well without the chance of liquid cement going everywhere, it moulds well to the surface & as long as you keep the screwdriver tip wet, it shapes into a realistic bead very well. It's all about practice & experimenting to find what suits you the best. Patrick

Beat me to it Patrick, i was going to say about the stretched sprue but never tried the Miliput idea though. Will give it a go later, cheers mate.

Thanks for the great advice guys! Can't believe I never thought of Milliput before, it's the only thing I haven't tried & I have loads in my box, will keep you posted on how my 1st attempt goes
