Im currently researching paints to buy for a next kit. Nothing worse than buying a kit and not being able to make a start on it.

This is the kit Im considering buying (along with airbrush, compressor etc etc etc)

Now. Im trying to convert to humbrol paints. (Apologies John). Had a big long chat with John and got loads of advice and Ive decided to switch back to humbrol paints, and Im going to ignore your advice on getting a gravity feed airbrush and get a side thingy one instead. Its what Ive always used before, its what Im confortable with, and if you start leaving your comfort zone you end up giving up

Anyway. Ive managed to convert all the paints using FS code and or RGB codes to Humbrol and Im stuck on just the one

FS 34088 Flat Olive Drab

Ive got it down to two

Humbrol 66 or Humbrol 155

One is a sort of grey colour and the other a sort of green

Its for the seats inside the cockpit and Ive never eaten a grey olive in my life so Im guessing it would be the green one?

Your advice most welcome please

A quick check on the Vallejo colour equivalents chart gives Humbrol 155 for FS34088.

How did you do that?

Ive spent hours looking and got nothing (I managed to convert the other 9 though). I even used about 4 different conversion online chart things.

You have done it in seconds!!!

I have the document saved on my PC as I tend to use Vallejo and often convert from other manufacturers, FS and RLMs to Vallejo.

155 is lighter and a little more brown than 66 which is darker and greener than the former. I'm not sure where the grey you saw comes from, never seen it myself. There were and are variations in the official OD colour.

There are a number of conversion charts online. Most paint manufacturers have charts of their own on their sites which convert to other brands. Some independent charts:

I had looked up FS34088 at http://www.paint4models.com/ and it came up with about 4 hits and no humbrol equivilent. Since all four were different colours I found it inappropriate to put in the RGB colours into http://scalemodeldb.com/paint (Which is where I found the purple for FS15200) so I went to the humbrol website and searched Olive Drab and came up with 66 and 155

You can go through all the different shades of olive drab from now until the cows come home home , my advice is revell Nato olive number 46 , no one can tell you it's wrong if they do there off it and don't have a clue , the grey you mention is a field grey and is not a drab never has been , drabs are brownish greens , khaki is a yellowish brown , it is confusing because people get confused as to what a drab it but in reality there all correct so just chose one and go with it

Ive always considered "drab" as boring, and since there is nothing boring about this forum or in scale model aircraft its probably the most inappropriate term possible for a paint. I mean, this is the only hobby I know where watching paint dry can actually get quite exciting.

I agree but the explanation of paint is VERY boring
