This is progressing nicely and the level of the works so far is awesome. It will be a very strong contender for the competition but should be the favourite in my eyes.

Since I got back early from my model, I commenced building again. I primed the model with Gunze Sangyo Mr Primer Surfacer 1000. This is a fantastic filler and primer. I used it for fine tuning the gaps and small seams that could not be fixed with normal filler. Additionally, I started painting the cowlings and I also started assembling the Prop assembly. The round marking on the prop cap was done by employing a Maths round circle stencil It worked beuat, as when I sprayed it over, there was no paint leakage-only a clean nice demarcation.

I just got started on painting the camo. Throughout, I managed to construct one undercarriage. They were quite complex and detailed. I added some hydraulic cables for the wheels using solder. I used the Tamiya black wash to highlight the undercarriage. This worked most effectively. The undersides were painted according to the appropriate RLM colours. The gunze primer Mr surfacer 1000 that I had previously undercoated worked brilliantly. This will now be my main primer. I fully recommend it to everyone on this forum, unless they have an airbrush that cannot take cellulose based products as this is cellulose based product. I masked the Camo with Tamiya 1cm wide tape, then masked the inside ones with foil-a trick I learned from someone on the forum doing a large scale build (I think it was Polux). This is a great technique as it saves money and time.

Here are some reference photos of what I am trying to recreate... This is the exact aircraft that this model is destined to be finished in. The photos came from Airfix Model World Magazine and Kagero. Bombs will not be attached to this aircraft as it was a patrol and defense aircraft, not an attack version. However, the trademark tanks of the D version will obviously be retained.

All the splinter camo on the wings are now finished The gloss cote is next, to be followed by a flat coat. The small protruding bits now remain such as the balancing horns and the ladder etc... The main undercarriages has been constructed with all the hydraulic hoses added using scratchbuilding techniques with solder. The undercarriage was weathered and highlighted using pin washes. In terms of painting, only touching up remains, the canopy and the mottling. FOr the canopy, I have ordered some montex masks. The glazing is colossal and I do not relish the task of ruining all that glass with mistakes when this is going to be a competition entry.

Next update. I have been unable to do major construction due to the busy time of christmas. The open engine assembly is finished apart from the last exhaust. The striking yellow cowlings have been fully painted. I have started on the mottling, but it is far from being finished. The wings have been gloss coated with humbrol gloss cote.
