Top and bottom fuselage halves joined, tail fin put together and a test fitting done of the wings and fin on the body. I must say this is the best fitting kit I've had the pleasure to build since returning to the hobby. Next stage is to finish and fit the air intake/front wheel bay. At the same time I will be painting the inside of the exhaust tube, u/c door etc.

Not a lot of exciting progress over the last couple of days to report. Been working on the intake and exhaust, plus painting the insides of the u/c doors amongst other things. The jet pipe and exhaust nozzle are a bit simple which is a shame on such an otherwise nicely detailed kit. I've ordered the Eduard brass/resin set to see if this is any better.

Coming along nicely. I notice you have masked off the intake . Out of curiosity, did you not get a decal to fit there?

No, as far as I can see per the instructions, there is no decal for the intake. Incidentally the manual still shows the old 3 colour scheme, where as the F-16 I am attempting to model is in the newer 2 colour camouflage of FS36118 over FS36270.

Just to prove I have not been totally unproductive over the last week or so. And the airframe is getting to a stage where I can soon start thinking about painting it. More photos to follow as and when!

Thanks Geoff. It is starting to come together a bit now - will post some more pictures later. I've finished priming and will now be moving on to painting the top coats, all hand painted of course. The Eduard resin/brass replacement exhaust pipe has also arrived, which is much nicer than the rather basic original, so am working on that as well.

Ok as promised, a couple of more photos. Airframe has had two coats of thin prima, plus the underside and fin have had the first thin topcoat. Click image for larger version

Here are a couple of shots comparing the Eduard exhaust (left) with the rather basic kit original. As can be seen the Eduard one is much better. Click image for larger version

I finished painting the undersides, so the next step is to mask off these parts and paint the top of the wings and fuz. Not so happy with the joint on the underside forward and aft of the nose wheel bay. Under my desk lamp it was not visible, but on the photos and in daylight it shows up a bit. Not sure what to do about it - probably will leave it as it is and rubbing it down and then repainting runs the risk that it will still be visible.

Wheels ready to roll! Why do things always look worse in the photos than in real life??😉

Final top coat applied, now to let it dry thoroughly before taking the masking tape off. Click image for larger version

Coming along nicely Gary. I agree about the photos, I always seem to notice something new when I post photos. I wouldn't worry about the wheel well join. It wont be visible when the model is displayed.

Masking tape is off, but I've been left with a few places which will need cleaning up and retouching unfortunately! I guess that is pretty much to be expected when hand painting.

Same with spraying Gary, I always have to go round with a paint brush to touch up areas.
