    Harrier GR3...... Hasegawa.... 1/72

Since the current project is on hold for a little while since the oil wash neds to dry off i thought do a little side project

When Dave showed his Spit and Typhoon the other day it gave me the urge to do a jet

Thing is i was born in the early 60s so modern grey stuff dosnt appeal
........ I was brought up with interesting aircraft like Hunters and Tooms...... Mirage III and Mig 21....and the like.. .interesting shapes and paint schemes

So im doing one of the lumpiest airframes ever..... A Harrier

    Following this,

There's always been something about the way a Harrier looks, maybe it's probably due to it being built not for streamlined gorgeous looks, but built to hump bombs from one place to another and make a lot of mess when it gets there.
    it just screams workhorse.

Bet you daren't paint it in black and yellow stripes!` Ha!

I remember this kit being one of the first Hasegawa kits I built, much more pricey that the Airfix and Matchbox kits I was used to, The difference in detail and build quality was incredible!

        Miko (nostalgic today)

A long long time ago i had an airfix harrier i bought at a show for next to nothing cos it had no decals...... I wanted it as a practice piece for air brushing..... One sceme i did was pink with yellow polka dots..just to practice with awkward colours.. ... Made me smile when i took the masks off it..... At the time i was playing an online game where you invented a country and pitted it against others.... Cant remember its name...... I ended up doing the harrier as part of this countries air force....... Leased from the RAF complete with pilots and techs....flew from jungle clearings so they didnt need runways.. .. To protect the nations assets from neighbours.... Especially the clotted cream mines and the scotch mist farms but also tackling the hamster poachers from next door who crossed the border to catch hamsters as they found them a delicacy

You sure do live in an interesting world! A bit like someone who enjoys a world where WWII era tanks are fought for sport in international competition by collage girls staged on huge aircraft carrier shaped floating cities!

I do like the Harrier and really think it came into its own with the later GR7 versions. Following along Paul.

What I like about what if build is they are always 100% accurate according to our imagination and it's good the have a build that's unique in the world, fun to write the back story too

I once did a mega back story
What if japan never attacked pearl harbour and usa decided to remain neutral.... In fact isolationist..... Uk invaded but the empire fights back..... Germany dosnt invade Russia but went south into Africa instead....... Went over a 40 year time span...... Queen dies in a viral pandemic that hits the world (and i wrote that nearly 20 years ago! ).... We got queen anne since charles dies leading his tank regiment into combat at el alamein in 1970..mussolini assainated by the sas.... We end up buying lots of aircraft off the russians so yak 3 in desert air force scheme...... I remember doing a mig 15 in 60s raf camo that looked just so right...... Germans kept french companies going.... I did a luftwaffe dornier-dassault f-1 that came out nice........ Agentina was germanys only ally in south america so that became thier industrial base...... Me262 nightfighter in 2 tone grey argy camo...... Til they fired a nuke tipped v3 rocket that took out houston and that dragged the americas into the war

Think i did about a dozen aircraft for that storyline.... Wish i still had pics but i lost them in a pc meltdown..... I even remember doing maps showing german/axis and japanese empire expansion over the years

Wow we could have a hundred page thread unpacking that revision of history! Fascinating to consider the possibilities!

Hitler lives in Buckingham Palace and Churchill lives in the Tower of London!

I had all the navys/governments/royal families of western europe escaping to canada and creating a coalition with the british empire..... Remember in 1939 how many of colonies european countries had in africa and far east..... It was basically ww2 that started alll those various nations wanting independance.... A world map suddenly looks different with empire-coalition in one colour...... Japanese empire in another...... German led axis in another...... Russia on it own..... Americas isolationist union in another
