Heres one I bought as a job lot with the recently completed Hellcat . Its the Spitfire HF mkVII in 1/72 . A lovely looking kit , loads of parts and a really big box for 1/72 ! Its the Weekend edition so no PE or anything but it looks beautifully detailed ( includes stencil placement info this time ,unlike the hellcat) and I will only need to add some seat belts . Eduard have obviously made the moulds as versatile as possible to allow for different marks of spitfire so theres a LOT of parts that you dont need for this one ( see pile of bits that Ive removed !!) . As for the scheme I think im going for the camo version.

Had a good bash at this yesterday and today . The cockpit is extremely well detailed for this scale featuring separate side panels which the cockpit is assembled between then fitted to the fuselage. The thing to remember here is that its a very precise fit and even a couple of coats of paint is enough to hinder assembly so mating faces need to be cleaned up . The kit features two instrument panels - one with raised details and one flat and a decal is supplied for the instruments . I opted to use the raised panel but with the decal too. A pre painted etched harness ( eduard of course ) was added to the seat before the whole cockpit was put together. I added the inertia reel wires to the harness with 5 amp fuse wire , the ends of these will just disappear into the rear fuselage but the front part will be visible.

Well this is starting to look like a spitfire now . A little filler was required on the fuselage top and cowlings top and bottom and a sliver of plastic card on the wing joint. This is down to me rather than the kit I think , as the rest of it fits very well . The chin scoop is just straight through , perhaps on the profipack theres an etched grille but I had to make my own with a piece of vitamin tablet packet , cut to size painted ,drybrushed and glued in .

Got the airframe all complete now , canopies masked and looking menacing in its black primer . I had a slight hiccup though - just before I was due to get the primer on I noticed I had knocked off one of the cannons during handling . Couldnt find it anywhere but luckily amongst all the ‘parts not for use ‘ there were two spares so a quick repair later and here we are .

After giving the upper wingtips and spinner a coat of white , ready for the red , the underside medium sea grey has been applied. This is my first time trying laquer paints - AK interactive - and I found them excellent , I got the RAF set which comprises 8 colours . Thinned with MR color 110 thinners they sprayed lovely so hopefully the top colours go on the same .

A step into the dark side. That's it now, you won't look at acrylics in the same way anymore.
But the Spitfire, looks very good. I've never been tempted by a high altitude version, but seeing yours, maybe. Well it would be a good excuse to build another Spitfire.👍 1Comment
