FINISHED Yellow 14 Hans Joachim Marseille 1:48 Hasegawa Bf 109F-4

I will be building Marseille's famous Yellow 14 Bf 109F-4 Trop from the Hasegawa Bf 109F/G moulds. The kit is a G-2 but it has the parts for the F. I will be building this concurrently with my hobbyboss Me 262. The decals are from Eaglecals and I will use some scratchbuilding for the interior and I will also use the eduard interior etch set. Hopefully, I will be able to produce a worthy replica of this fmous aircraft. Pics will be posted in the coming days.

    Cheers, John

Which one? W.Nr. 8693, 10 059 or 10 137? I don't know which Eaglecals do and they are all different

I did 8693 simply because I fancied the red rudder!

      Cheers

Gotcha. That's W.Nr. 8673 which I forgot above. Looking on the bright side you won't have to put those little frame numbers or wing walkway lines on this one

          Cheers

              Hi Steve.

Sorry for jumping in here but I have the Zveda 4806 ME 109 F4 ( 1/48) kit not started but I was thinking the same as John doing the famous yellow 14 with red rudder then thought of Duxfords Black 6.

I've never built the Zveda kit before but looks ok, let alone a famous 109 but do you know of any issues with this kit and as Black 6 seeing as it's a G2 is there much difference in aircraft type that I may need major alterations.

Reading your quote earlier thought hello here's a man who knows his 109s

Again sorry for jumping in on this

The zvezda one is the most accurate, but I find it to be lacking in detail. You might think about having an eduard zoom to spruce it up

The detailing begins! Quite a bit of evergreen scratchbuilding plastic, as not all shapes can be represents by PE. I ground off some off the kit sidewall detail with my dremel and replaced the cabling with the smallest diameter tube from evergreen. The shiny shapes and boxes are the PE boxes. I used a "4 Hold and Fold from the small shop to do this.

                  Cheers, John

Here is the cockpit all painted. A great deal of detailing went into it. I was about to use my air scale decals, but I chose not to use them in favour of the Eduard set. I have joined the fuselage and the gun cowling together. The join is the best I have seen so far. It virtually clicked together, and once the Tamiya extra thin worked beaut on it. Amazingly, there was virtually no seam running along the length of the fuselage. This is amazing fit.

Next update. The undersides were sprayed RLM 78 and the upper was done in RLM sandy yellow

Whoops! uploaded it in the wrong order...

Next update. I decided to scratchbuild the fuel line. HOwever, the clear inspection part is not finished yet. The airframe's wing to fuselage fit is excellent. I used the eduard grille for the chin intake. For the wheel wells, the lightening holes were not hollow. I drilled these out. The effect was pretty satisfying, as it gave it a more realistic look.

                          Cheers, John

Yep. That's right. Here is the next update. The Eaglecals decals went on superbly. I have decided to EXTENSIVELY weather this. Further photos will show oil streak marks everywhere. I haven't done the cordite staining for the guns yet. This aircraft operated in the western desert, so you can expect it will get pretty mucky. Tropical filter is now on
