    1/72 F-22A Raptor

This Hobbyboss kit is a F-22A – single-seat production version which was designated F/A-22A in early 2000s. It's a 2009 new mould & typical of HobbyBoss so it's really well done. Moulded on 4 grey plastic & 1 clear sprue, it's a very detailed and worth-the-money kit with full-detailed weapons bay. Not only that, it has wing racks for those JDAMs.

The decal is only one option: the 422d Test and Evaluation Squadron (422 TES), known as the "Green Bats", it's a part of the 53rd Test and Evaluation Group and operate out of Las Vegas, Nellis Air Force Base.

Tail code on the decal is: OT 010 AF00. It should be the F-22A PRTV (Production Representative Test Vehicle) Raptor, 99-4010 of 422nd TES.

    Here's some grey sprues:

Fuselage dry-fitting. Small gaps between tail fin and fuselage, assembled the cockpit parts and ACES II seat, done with the weapons bay too.

        Some updates:

Cockpit, instrument panel and ACES II painted with Gaia Ultimate Black + Flat base.

HUD and cockpit done washing and panel lining.

F-22A Gold tinted canopy color testing.

Clear Orange - Clear Yellow - very thin layer of stainless steel and Red Gold.

        Any suggestion?

Done F-22A Raptor gold-tinted canopy, also called a success on the experiment.

            As you can see, when light is on a direct hit, it reflected the light and almost looks like mirror;

And when light is away, it shows the interior.

            Different angle different opacity!

This looks very nice kitti and I'll definatly be watching this to its completion.

I really like the ring and explanation added to it as this looks most authentic. Lovely details

                Regards

                Robert

                      Guys! Some updates here:

Sometime it's not good to stick with the marking/painting instruction, because they'll bring you to somewhere you doesn't like.

I follow the painting suggestion and everything goes wrong, they suggest 308 as base coat and 305 as the camo, no contrast on the camo and I need to repaint it with Darker Gray (Gunze 317) on the camo part but luckily the outcome is much better than before.

Ballast-ing, ok basically they're made of ceramic, just like your kitchen tiles, almost +300gm here.

                      Primed:

                      Masking aint easy:

                      Wrong painting suggestion!

And then I repaint the camo with Gunze 317, now it looks much better and contrast too:

                      The different:

After some panel washing and little bit refine work:

Gun Metal & Burnt Iron on the exhaust.

                      Locked n' loaded. GBU-12 LGB x4, AIM-9 x2 & AIM-120C AMRAAM x6 & JDAM x2.

That's all for today, continue after work.

                      Cheers!

This is really nice. Very brave work on the canopy, I would never have the confidence to try that but it looks brilliant.

60% done, it's time for detailing and diorama!

This HobbyBoss 1/72 F-22A Raptor really killed me badly deep inside me. First, the painting scheme suggestion is totally OUT!! Very low contrast between two type of grey and can't see any camouflage. I save the day by spraying Gunze 317 onto the camo pattern.

Yea for canopy, I done it by spraying layer by layer. Clear Orange, Clear Yellow and then very thin layer of Mirror Light Steel.

In fact, a lot of mistakes and messed up a lot, let's take it as a lesson and gains experience with it.
