good news/ bad news !

Latest progress, and a bit of a disaster!! The Ta 183 is nearly at the paint stage , the airframe being complete ,just needing the headrest and gunsight fabricating and the canopy putting on. And now for the bad news! The messerschmitt was going great, the fuselage top and bottom had been glued and i had superglued the 2 pieces of drinking straw into the intakes , ready for cutting flush after the glue had set. Now, what happened next i have never known happen before- the superglue must have had some sort of reaction with the type of plastic used by PM models and the entire nose just went brittle and crumbled!! The only thing i can think to rescue this is to stick a big lump of milliput on the front and try and sand it to shape again.Heres the pics -WARNING , not for the squeamish !!! tony

Tony, thats crazy I've never seen super glue react to plastic like that before! Maybe a balsa plug glued to the nose for a base would be easier to shape, then you can coat it with a thin layer of putty just my .o2. Hate to see that happen ,good luck with the repair, cheers Trey

Good grief! I've seen CA glues react with the surface layers of plastic to make a brittle, chalky sort of crust but never anything like that.

I'm a big fan of Milliput but wonder if Trey's balsa plug might not be easier to do.

I hope you can sort it and I'm interested to see how you do it.

          Cheers

          Steve

Well , the messerschmitt has paid a visit to the plastic surgeons for a nose job. Filled with Milliput it should sand up ok when its hard. Speaking of hard , i had to soak the milliput in hot water before i could cut a couple of pieces off and mix it together , it had been out in the cold shed and was like rock!!!!At least the straw intakes look ok now theyre trimmed off ,they can have a skim of filler round the edges after ive sanded the nose to shape. cheers tony EDIT: ive just looked at the first pic,is it me or can anyone see the resemblance to the schnozz of a sea harrier FAW2 ? !!!

Well after a bit if sanding the nose on the me p 1111 looks a lot better. The gun troughs have been drilled and the u/c bay has been cut out , the whole thing receiving a blast of primer so i can see which bits need a bit more fine filling.

The ta 183 has had the headrest and instrument shroud/gunsight added and is ready for the canopy I have also been knocking up a rudimentary cockpit for the horten , nothing being provided other than seats. cheers tony

Been a bit busy lately , so progress has been slow ,but heres the latest developments. The Ho 229 has had the scratchbuilt cockpit painted and has had the two airframe sections glued together , with a bit of help! The Ta 183 and the Me p1111 have both had the canopy fitted and are in primer ready for painting. The nose on the messerschmitt now looks alot better , having had a final fill and sand . heres the pics and a "before" and "after" comparison of the nose job. Fantastic rebuild on the nose Tony, and that scratchbuilt cockpit is excellent! Looking forward to seeing these futuristic machines painted.
