    Tamiya 1/72 Phantom II F4-G

Not the best, I’m afraid compared with others here. A kit I started in 2017 - just before we moved house and it took this long to complete!

Adding fun photo next to a Harrier GR4 - supposedly the same scale but it seems far too small in comparison to the Phantom. I’ve got some Phantoms in US colour schemes to build, so I thought I’d do something else.

Looks good Neil, the camouflage scheme adds interest. The size difference between the Harrier and Phantom looks correct. The F-4 is enormous and the Harrier is only about the comparative size of an A-4 Skyhawk.

I looked on everyone's favourite internet encyclopedia and the Harrier is 47ft, the Phantom 63ft - so it really is that much bigger.

The Luftwaffe version was just to finish an old model I started. ,

Now I’m in progress is a Lightning, the F-2, in Singapore colours, my plan is to get every aircraft that would have been at one of the RAF bases I grew up on in the 70’s/ 80’s - the lightning is 1970 and we were there then - I was only 4 so not like I remember them. I do remember Harriers and Jaguars in Germany at Wildenrath and Bruggen, then Marham when Tornados were there too although we lived in Wisbech not on-base. I don’t remember seeing Buccaneers but I guess they would have been there too.

That and I’ve been banned from buying anything else until I finish at least 6 in the stash - harsh!

I was a forces "BRAT" Neil. My father was a Chief Tech. My RAF history was RAF Chivenor mid 60's to about 1969. We had Hunters then. In 1969 up to RAF Leuchars with Lightnings. Short stint at Leuchars then over to Bruggen Germany with Phantoms of I belive 43 Squadron then a return to the UK at Leconfield about 1973 with Lightnings. Many a happy day spent near the run ways watching these bad boys taking off and landing but the night flying was a pain the proverbile back side.

My dad was a medic, originally at Shawbury where I was born, then Singapore, Patrington, Wegberg (the RAF hospital), Uxbridge and Marham. He retired as a Warrant Officer - not quite God but close! In Germany we probably lived closer to Rheindalen because I went to school there but we used to have footy matches with schools at Bruggen and Wildenwrath. We were in Germany mid 70’s.

We visited Rheindalen most weekends. We lived in a lovely house off base in Elmpt just outside Bruggen. I went to Kent School...Happy days.

Always good to see a Phantom I have a new found appreciation for the F-4 after seeing a number of YouTube about the type

          Nice job!

A Phantom, one of those aircraft that just looks right. Nice job on your build.

IMO Phantoms don't look 'right' on the ground - in the air is definitely a different matter however!
