Tamiya 1/72 Bell X-1 "Mach Buster"

An enjoyable build of the Bell X-1 from this old kit. It's not designed to have the landing gear retracted, so it took a bit of work to get the gear doors flush. I included Eduard PE inside, but having not used either of the clear fuselage half options, you can't see much at all in there, and the kit parts would have sufficed. It was a good learning experience because the PE came in the kit when I bought it.

Painted in Humbrol enamel and Ammo Acrylic metallics, and varnished in Aqua Gloss. The stand is part of the kit.

I hope you like it. One can really see the profile link between the fuselage and a .50 calibre round. 😎

Cheers Steven. I like it too; I didn't think it would look right on the stand with the landing gear down.

Cheers Geoff, I think so too. It's really quite small, it fits in the palm of my hand comfortably.

Cheers Paul, glad you like it. The stand has the Tamiya star logo stamped on it. I have one other Tamiya kit that comes with a stand, an F-84 Shooting Star in a USAF Thunderbirds scheme.

That's a great build of an iconic aircraft.

                Very nice Joe,
The colour is perfect and the fact you've modelled it in flight really does set it apart from other 'on the ground versions', top job matey, top job indeed.
