I have a Tamiya scriber which I found a little unwieldy to say the least. What scribers do you use?

Hi David. I'd normally use the Tamiya one too, but I'd never thought of scribing over decals. For that I use Microsol etc. to get it as well settled as possible, then when dry press it into the panel line with something more rounded, like a cocktail stick or even a fingernail. But hey, why am I telling you? Your results are better than mine!

Hi Doug, I think I should have realised that a double decal would not settle down too well. I tried loads of Microsol but it didn't work for me. So I put some clear cote on it then crossed my fingers and went with the scribe. On reflection next time I will pre-scrib where a double decal will sit.


It was my fourth kit built since coming back to the hobby and I'm learning as I go.

Personally, I think the Japanese planes's weathering have a lovely possibilities. And you show it perfectly

did you use pure black for the cowling?


saw in some forums, the cowling actually has a blue hue ...


some say it is indeed black, but because of the poor quality of paint, it gets weathered off ...

Thanks for the positive comment.


The cowling was painted with a satin Revell Aqua black. It was the only part which I did not put any matt varnish on.


I painted the propeller with Humbrol 113.


I have the Tamiya Zero in 1/48 and the Airfix 1/72 in the stash to do, when the mood takes me.


With those I may go a bit deeper into the minefield that is Japanese Aircraft colours.
