Cracking build Colin I am envious mind you I would find it difficult to build such a large model in my small workshop (small back bedroom) stunning photos as well a credit to you, enjoy your beers much better than a pat on the back

Thank you all for taking time to comment. During many parts of the build, I found myself smiling at the engineering that Tamiya have put into this kit. Yes, it's expensive, but it impressed me.


Now, some of you might have noticed the model is named Hilda. Hilda was my wife's Grandmother who died on December 1st 2014 aged 96 years old. This model was built in memory of Hilda, Great Grandmother to my two daughters, and just a lovely old lady. Hilda and the Spitfire, the best of British.

Wow now, don't tempt me.....................although during the photo's it was a bit windy and a wing did lift. That was a heart stopping moment.

You will. Just keep looking at lots of pics and you will be fine. But do sit down and read the instructions a few times !

it looks exactly like a Spitfire

I'm not one for measuring wings and fuselage lengths but this model does have a 'presence' about it - I think Tamiya got it right. It's then of course our job to utilise what the manufacturer has given us.

many (to my eye) over-weathered

Something that I've been guilty of on occasion, well ok maybe a bit too often. So I had to try hard not to over do it with this build. With such good surface detail, I didn't think it needed much weathering.

such a large model

It's not too big Phil, 12 x 14 inches roughly. It now gets to sit on top of the fish tank, the previous occupier of that space (1:24 Sea Harrier) has been moved on !

I think the trick here is outdoor photo's. There's just something about natural light which helps my photo's that I can't replicate inside.


I'm sticking with 1:32 for my next build, but absolutely nothing like the Tamiya. So, where are my filler and sanding sticks ? I haven't seen them in a while, but I'll be needing them soon.
