    Airfix 1/72 Supermarine Spitfire PR.XIX

My OOB build of the Airfix 1/72 Supermarine Spitfire PR.XIX, depicted as PS852, flown by FLTLT Edward ‘Ted’ Powles, No.81 Squadron, RAF Kai Tak, Hong Kong, in January 1951.

My only additions to the kit were Tamiya tape straps for the cockpit as I elected not to use the deformed pilot. There were a few sink marks on wing and fuselage surfaces, and the camera lenses were difficult to get right. The canopy had a mould release line that went up the inside of the windshield and on to the outside of the canopy bubble. I removed the lines and polished with Tamiya compounds. Apart from that everything else was superb, although you get four and three spoke wheels with no indication on which to use, so references were handy to have. A gem of a kit. I used Ammo Mig acrylics for the main High Speed Silver finish, and kept weathering to a bare minimum.

Lovely job. Looks fantastic next to the Mk1 DW-K as well, really shows off the development of the model.

That's a nice little number Joe. I think I've built the same in PRU blue.

Cheers Colin. I like the PRU Blue scheme, this kit had the Swedish option.

Thanks Vaughan. I've become a fan of Ammo Mig metallics
