    Monogram 1/48 P-47D Thunderbolt (SEAC)

Just to show that I do build aircraft as well (I'm actually primarily an aircraft modeller) - here's probably my best build of last year; Monograms old but good 1/48 P-47D. The RAF in Burma decals were from the Xtradecal 'Yanks with Roundels' sheet and the model was brush painted with Hataka acrylics. So 'so called' weathering was from whatever I had lying in my drawer - I think it was a flory 'grime' wash and some Humbrol powders.

It's a nice kit, I'd certainly build another if they weren't so expensive.

Nicely done. Pilot looks good. With figures in planes it's often a case of getting them into the cockpit rather than the painting. It's often amputated feet or a shaved down bum!

        Thanks Jim!

LOL! I know what you mean - I've had to chop many a pilot off below the knees! The Monogram one fitted quite nicely however.

Like the build, and subject, and as you say with what you had at hand, and nice to see a 'Jug' with markings other than US.

Thanks Mike! It's okay for what it is, I just wanted to dirty it up, but proper weathering is something I really do want to get to grips with.

I do like Thunderbolts in SEAC camouflage, although I had originally intended to paint it was a USAAC aircraft, I couldn't find a subject that inspired. I'm also not a fan of 'naff' nose art, which the decal companies seem to be obsessed with.

Great job arnold , i love the Monogram kits , great detail and not overly complicated . Some people dismiss them cause of the raised panel lines but I dont mind , a bit of care in the build and you can usually preserve them . If you want to build another Jug but cant find a monogram one cheap enough the Academy 1/48 kits are a lovely build too and usually easy enough to find for a reasonable price. Cheers tony

Thanks Tony - I really appreciate the kind comments.

I don't have any issues with raised panel lines either, it's certainly not a stopper as far as I'm concerned. I'll check out the Academy kit, although I hear good things about the Tamiya kit as well, I suspect they're far more expensive.
