I know I couldn’t kick one over now. Mine had a decompressor lever but I never worked out how to use it LOL. No internet in those days
I just used to get it to TDC, the. Throw myself up and come down on it straight legged. Fired every time…..but you needed boots with a good heel.

A bad kick back only happened to me once. That was when I realised the value of boots with a good heel :anguished:. My foot slipped off as I was kicking it over. Never quite went over the bars, but it was close. My ankle was hit by the kick lever and was so bruised it looked like I was wearing a purple sock :anguished: . The kick start bump stop was fractured and blown straight through the engine casing. I could get a spare bump stop no problem, but the casing was another matter. I stripped it, cleaned and degreased it thoroughly, roughed up the edges of the hole with a coarse file to aid adhesion, and built up a repair patch out of 24 hour araldite over several days. Last job was reinforcing the outside with a square of aluminium sheet. It was a right bodge job, but I was an impoverished 19 year old and it stayed oil tight for the couple of years I owned the bike
