Thanks for the comments, and yeah, dust would add quite a lot to it, and I might just do that before re shooting. Mind you, if I just leave it on the shelf for a bit...The shiny uniforms struck me too. But apart from that, I really like it. You've definitely captured an animated moment of action, I love the way that it immediately says 'there's things going on'.
I've never done a diorama, but would like to give it a go sometime. I'd be delighted if my first effort is as good as yours. I doubt it tho'
One last suggestion that you could do without too much hassle, maybe give the sandbags a bit of a 'dusting'. If you know what I mean.
Anyway, well done!Comment

Thanks for the kind words! I am hooked, but the process is such a different it is a bit of a culture shock. The actual model is almost a sideshow!A great diorama and a great looking scene it looks spot on to me and if you enjoyed building it then that's good enough isn't it.
The motorbike ( BMW?) looks really nice and sets the scene up really well I think ( bringing in new orders etc )
I like the colours too really blends in with the colours of the desert
Nice one John

All I did John was to mist the figure with matt coat leave until almost dry and lightly brushed similar colour pastels on to clothing and flesh onto skin then sealed them with a light dusting of matt

That is a great first Dio John a word of warning though once the bug bites for doing this sort of thing it's hard to stop.Comment

What do you use to grind them? I'm very familiar with them from my art school days, and can see that they'd be useful. I bought pigments before the idea had been suggested, and my one issue with them is that they are often poor colours, ending up with me mixing them - this works, but is messy and time consuming!Comment

I just scrape them with a Stanley knife blade if I want a small amount if I need a lot I use a mortar and pezel .What do you use to grind them? Update - well it looks matt as a matt thing, but am struggling to shoot it right. I'm using a very nice Lumix LX3, on a tripod with natural lihjt (plent of it) and they've had some PS treatment, but I'm well disappointed in them tbh. Gonna have to get the big guns out, methinks!
