    German Infantry Officer Alpine 1/16

Hello everyone, this is my current work in progress. The figurine is nicely detailed, so should be fun to paint (sorry for the French titles...).

I created a scene under Blender to have a reference for lighting from above right as I wanted to challenge myself on some different lighting. Not exactly the same soldier, but the main purpose was to get an idea of where to put highlights and shadows. I plan to create a portion of a bunker wall behind the officer.

I did an initial sketch with acrylic colors (Atom). The result does obviously not look nice, but helps me get a rough view of shadows. I will then go with oil paints for the final, smooth layer. As you can see, the right side and the back of the uniform are darker than the left side.

Hi everyone, summer is apparently not a very good time for modelling... But I'm making some progress.

I started the oils on the uniform but wasn't happy with either the color or the finish. So I deeped the body in alcohol and started again. Black and white pre-shading and acrylic coating, this time simpler: a single color per zone.

The face turned out better and I managed to get a lighter side on the left and a darker side on the right, in line with whatI was looking for.

Before going back to the uniform, I am doing some research to get interesting shades of field grey. I prepared a gray base with ivory black and burnt umber with a touch of Naples yellow for a slightly warm gray. Then I tested different greens. I didn't think I'd get such different shades...

I'm leaning toward using mix 1 for the pants and mix 3 + a touch of red for the jacket. Mix 3 alone is a little too saturated, so the red is used to tone it down.
