    A couple of golf trophies

Next year is the 100th anniversary of my golf club, so I thought I would have a go at making a couple of trophies. The idea is to make a male and a female golfer of the 1920's. I will also have a go at producing a faux bronze finish for each before mounting them appropriately. Each figure is about 180 mm high (11") and is sculpted in Magic Sculpt.

Here's the man before I start experimenting with a bronze finish.

I want to explore various local woodworkers to see if I can find a nice hardwood base for each.

    Hi John
He looks superb. Not being a golfer I have no idea if he has just hit a good shot but he looks spot on.

Not only nicely sculpted but your figure shows great form and follow through. I have a couple of "golf sticks" from the early years, wood shaft and all. I honestly don't know how they managed to play with those things. John, you always amaze me with the originality of your modeling efforts. Looking forward to more.
        Cheers, Rick H.

          Thanks chaps much appreciated.

So I have finished a faux bronze look on the man. I started with a coat of flat black, then while drying I rubbed in some bronze powder. This was then coated with a wash of Van dyke brown oil paint thinned in some white spirit. Finally I rubbed on some AK tru metal old bronze colour and polished to a shine. I'm quite happy with the final look.

That looks to have worked exceptionally well. Very bronze.

Really nicely done John, I wouldn't mind having a trophy figure like that. At least the owners or winner of this won't need to polish it now and then as the look of shiny bronze will be permanent. :smiling3:

                  Cheers,
                  Richard

Wow Many thanks for all your interest and the kind words.

I have finished the ladies trophy now, (based on a photo of Joyce Wethered, probably one of the best all time ladies golfers and English as well). I' just waiting now for a couple of walnut bases that someone is turning for me.
