More than a whiff of Hemmingway about this. Real character in the face and nice texture in the clothing. Going to be great when he’s done.

            Looks great Steve something unusual.

Reminds me of my paternal grandfather, Andrew or Sandy.
            He was a Shetland Islander.

Came down to live in Hull. I remember him as a small boy.
He would sit there knitting, Shetland way & in Fair Isle.

Fair Isle part of the Shetlands it is an Island between Shetland
            & Orkney.

Back to Grandad. He sat there in his armchair, listening to the news,
clicking away knitting. But just one needle a round one. Knit from
top to bottom no seams. Same with the arms. The wool still had
that water proofness as it came from the sheep.

A face full of character, looks good even at this stage Steve.
Love the shading and detail on the hat .

Nice one Steve, I'd keep the face oily but the rest in matt. Baths at sea are not frequent so he'll look quite ruddy and facial oils abundant.

                    Cheers,
                    Richard

Nice start on the weatherbeaten facial tones.

oils have started to dry, so can add more highlights and some green into the shadows.

Really interested to watch your technique with this - loving the subtle colour variations in the irises.
