What do you do with the kit boxes?

I was just sitting here in the shop looking at the stash and the empty boxes from builds long completed and it got me to thinking about what to do with them. Most of the boxes still have little trinkets and sprues with unused parts on them. I'm thinking about some kind collection (maybe cut the box art off the cover to save space). The artwork on most of the kit boxes are to good to just throw away so I put it to you, what do you do with the boxes?

If it is an oldish kit I save them as sometimes boxes can have some value despite being empty, others I may just cut the art-work off and pin it to my mancave wall.

Now that brings back memories!! When I was a youngster I used to keep the box tops and the instructions and stick them into scrap books. I had quite a few over the years and, boy, I wish I could see them now!

The transfers all got put into a little box, which I still have, although most of them will no longer be useable, and all the remaining parts and a couple of samples of sprue went into a bit box, which provided many a part for a modification or an upgrade etc.

I keep the very old boxes, the newer ones I simply put into the recycle bin. Sprues make good stirrers, and spare parts go into a box. I take a photo of each box top though for keepsake purposes and build galleries.

Hardly got enough room for my models let alone empty boxes.

Chuck the boxes keeping any left over bits and pieces which may prove use full in the future.

Clutter has not got a chance in my world.

Keeping Pauline though good at cooking you see.

I keep the boxes for a while until I have no more space, then I cut the spares off the sprue and then put them into my spares box. The artwork I cut out and post them up.

They can sometimes be worth money as kits complete with boxes generally sell for more than those without - just like most toys. Anyone who has a damaged/lost box may replace it with one in better condition. Might be worth keeping them if you can fold them flat so they don't take up too much space.

I flaten the boxes and use the cardboard for scratchbuilding stuff (before I got back into plastic I saved the cereal packets.

Me, I cut off the art, ditch the rest of the box, extras go into spares boxes, I even keep instructions (is that sane!? )

Add the left over parts to the spares box and ditch the box and sprues.

left over bits and decals go in the spares box

if its a decent sturdy box then a revell kit will get transfered into it from its own crappy end opening box!

my gluing habit is to squirt a little onto a bit of card and use a toothpick to apply said glue to plastic so i sometimes cut up a box into 2 inch squares for this purpose (the shiny side dosnt soak up the glue )

other than that it goes straight into the recycling bin

We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no ones been

I bin the boxes then put any left over parts in different boxes drop tanks in one missiles in another and so on. To me it saves tipping stuff out everywhere to find the bit you need. Decals go in a air tight box so they don't degrade to quickly. I don't know about any one else but I find a certain satisfaction in cutting the sprue trees down at the end of a build. It is almost like it is the last thing to do before moving on to the next kit.
