    Armed Forces Past and Present

Ok people, you know who you are...Front and centre!

I'm ex Royal Navy, joined at 16 in March 1989, I served 5 1/2 years.

I was aboard HMS Jupiter (F60).

1990, Part of Armilla Patrol Whiskey, we were in the Person Gulf when Iraq invaded Kuwait.

1992, part of STANAFORLANT (standard naval force atlantic).

HMS Andromeda we got redeployed to the Adriatic Sea to be a blocking force if required.

Other than little jollies here and there, that was my RN history.

6 years with Royal signals, not much to "say" remember the comms coming in regarding Kuwait and thinking to myself " I only joined for the uniform and the girls now I have to do real work! " after that I did 3 years with Staffords TA.

Take my hat off to you guys i tried but being colourblind they wouldn't have me I even said you were crying out for colourblind people in the war (apparently we can see through camouflage )but no said we start maneuvers with colour flares and if you can't tell which colour you won't know when or what to do, and to be honest I could not tell the difference of the coloured flares, but they could have used me for recce or something. Oh well they didn't now I'm too old and crumbly.

17 years RAF, 6 years in signals, then 11 years as aircraft engine fitter on Phantoms and Vulcans. Served at Wittering, Tangmere, Bahrain, Cottesmore, St Athan, Bruggen, Coningsby, Wattisham, Gutersloh and finally Abingdon. Loved every minute of it.

I joined the RAF aged 17 and a few months.Spent the best part of 13 years as an Airframe fitter on Phantoms.RAF Coningsby for 6 yrs, then RAF StAthan.Plus a 4 month tour down the Falklands a few weeks after the war had finished.Didnt see any action until I left the service and worked in Saudi for British Aerospace. Was at Dhahran for first Gulf War.Although the Saudi mud movers bombed places our squadrons ADV's didn't fire a shot!.Exciting time though.
