Tree sap and Honey Dew on your car

Beware. Wife says park under that tree to keep the car cool.

Man does that. Result man finds sap and honey dew now covers car. Worse man did not realise with the dust in hot weather covering car. Sun does a good work in baking all this stuff "everywhere" on the car.

Man is most unhappy and spends 2 hours with rubbing compound (nothing else will remove although nail varnish remover is not bad) on just roof and bonnet.

Moral park any where but under trees as it seems it is a bumper year for trees. Car hot not being parked under a tree but not as hot as I am after two hours of toil plus £22 for special compound.

Hot water and turpentine is rather good. Just check it out on a "hidden" area of paint first.

I hate the 'chocolate drops' that birds seem to splatter on cars these days.....

Small, 4mm-5mm drops that look just like melted chocolate.

As my car now has a bright blue wrap (see Avatar) these blobs leave a pink stain if not removed flippin' pronto.

Hence - my neighbours think I'm a fanatic because I damp-cloth my car EVERY morning.......

And no - there's no hope of putting it my stuffed-to-capacity garage!

        Roy.

Thanks Ian will try Turpentine (white spirit) on the rest as I think it will be more restful on my weary wrists.

          Aidan are you joking !

Lucky you do not have Seagulls Roy. They release horrible bombs, stuff that melts melt plastic and remove cellulose paint. Plus they do it in big generous patches and are not content with one bomb.

Sea gulls. Thats an easy one. Dont clean the car. Seagulls Poop habitually over water. Anything bright and shiny is water to them, so they swoop down and poop all over your nice shiny car. Our Swift that is kept sort of clean gets bombed (almost) daily. The 4x4 that only gets washed when it rains never gets pooped on. It is normally covered in dust!

Best solution yet is to remind the wife her car needs cleaning. Then run.

You must have some good mannered seagulls in Denmark Ian M. The Jersey devils will poop on everything and every one and will nick your ice-cream out of your cornet then bomb your cornet all in one pass.

Brilliant Ian papa. Merlin green should look nice.

Hi Laurie I would definitely not use rubbing compound it will take all your paint off also nail varnish remover is basically cellulose thinners which will also take your paint off, I generally find petrol is fairly effective (although even that is a solvent, but no where near as bad as cellulose thinners or rubbing compound.

Crikey that all sounds rather risky on your paint work. I'd suggest grabbing some proper cleaner Laurie. I personally use Meguiars products on my car. They have a body solvent that doesn't require scrubbing. http://www.meguiars.co.uk/product/286/Body-Solvent/

Actually went to the car body shop and this is the stuff they recommended

Thanks to you both. Tried an auto motive solvent which has the same properties as you mention Joe but this was not successful. Actually went to the Car Body Shop and they gave me this stuff to use. Hardly any pressure is used to get rid of the blotches. Polished the part I have finished and all looks normal. They say that in the sunshine we have had recently the stuff has baked itself onto the surface.

Glad you got it sorted Laurie. I keep some detailer spray handy for removing bird poo, sap and other deposits which can be used quickly without having to go though an entire wash and polish procedure. Well worth the money. But you do have to deal to it pretty quickly.

I thought it was Kangaroos Moni jumping on your windscreen that was the worst or is that an Englishman's silly view.

Do the Possums eat the wipers ? Went to Longleet and in the monkey enclosure they were ripping aerials and wipers off. That is apart form sitting on the bonnet warming their bottom with the engine heat.

Ah well back to the cleaning this stuff form the car.
