Yep friends

Yesterday I found my first modellings builds, I was glad with them and I decided to share with all you. Well, when I was shooting the photos I thought "these little models are very nice, maybe I should build some"...

I took my phone and start to search references.

I don't exactly how, but after 40 minuts I was looking, on two english forums, a thread of a beauty and amazing tank at scale 1/16 O_o

Ok, my idea was bought a 1/72 tank and finally I will have a 1/16 one...

I'm not worried because:

I always change of opinion (modelling talking )

And everyday I'm thinking my way on the modelling are the large models...I love them ops:

My question is:

How powerful is internet and, specially eBay, on our stash decisions?!

You are the one who said: tomorrow I will build a Tiger, I'm not worried if my life and wallet are on risk... :P

Well, I was looking for a tank...but I have found a nice F15 just for 10p and..., well...ops:

I ask this because, sometimes, I feel we build what we found, not what we want...

Maybe a plane modeller will say he has no problem...all planes are good. But I'm sure you understand what I mean

I think you have a point Polux. Many times I've been on Ebay looking for a particular model and then bought something totally different because it was 10p.

If I 'REALLY' want something specific I do tend to buy it even if it costs a bit (1/8 scale Revell XKE and 1/12 Airfix Bentley Blower that I still haven't started) but to be honest I've had as much fun with impulse purchases!

My stash is probably a 50/50 mix so I guess the internet does have some power over my choices.

I see your point polux I have been on the net looking for one thing and buying something completely different, but surely we do the same in the shops i know I have, you just have more choice on the net so it's more easy to get sidetracked.

I must agree, i do it all the time look for one thing and some think else gets me,or i end up buying 2 that i like,

If I see something that takes my fancy then, if on Ebay, I will watch it and if the price goes to far I will not get it. I am on a budget so most of my builds are cheap...have to be.

It's like shopping with SWMBO. "It's on sale I'll save us money if I buy this". Did you actually need it in the first place? I'm a sucker for a good deal too, but lately I've taken a stance of controlling myself. No point in having a stash the size of Germany's score against Brazil only to never have the time to construct them. Not to mention the space to display them.

I'm guilty of random evil bay purchases as well,sometimes its just the right price or subject matter that pops into play. I recently got a F-14 1/48 revell kit still sealed for under $10 with shipping, really was'nt looking for one ! Alas the stash grows yet again.

I think the beauty of eBay is its diversity - I do searches for under £5 & it's amazing what comes up!

As Joe rightly says though, it can be all

too easy to buy something 'because it's a bargain'.

These days I try to have a plan for how a model will be displayed before I buy it.

I rarely buy from eBay. When I do I use one of those 'sniping' programmes which means I can put in what I'm prepared to pay and if it goes above that I don't want it anyway. I've seen a few kits go for silly prices but there are plenty of good deals as well.

We're all on a budget Si, some are larger than others . I'm lucky that this lark is my only vice and I can afford to spend a reasonable amount. I haven't won the lottery yet and as I tend to buy large scale and more expensive kits I have to buy fewer of them!

The internet is my primary source of information these days, I no longer subscribe to and hardly ever buy modelling magazines anymore. Almost all my purchases are online too, there's little alternative nowadays and I live in one of Britain's largest conurbations!

I don't keep a stash in any meaningful way, maybe two or three models 'to do', and tend to buy a kit for something that interests me.

Seriously though I'm not someone who changes there mind if I look for something then that's what I get , if I'm just having a look it has to shout at me or I don't buy it not even if it's 10p

Apart from things I've been bought as a present the rest in my stash is what I want

Evil bay got me again 2nite just bought an old Bandai Willys Jeep w/trailer! Under $20 with shipping could'nt help myself.

Like Steve (Stona) I use ebay to find what's available. Type, say, 1/72 armour into Google and you'll get 47 trillion sites to look at. Go via the filters available on ebay and you can find how many different types there are, who makes them and where to find them on just one single list.

All very well of course, but the other side of the question leads to huge stashes and empty bank accounts!

I`m addicted to evil-bayops: greatest thing to have come along for modellers

On a serious note, e-bay is a good thing for what ever you are wanting to buy, so much diversity and choices, you can find bargains and rare kits, also the internet has moved us all along with information etc

Model forums are a great place to pick up kits etc, I managed to pick up a kit the other day being sold (new) for half the price than it would have cost out of the shops! the thing with e-bay is, if you are prepared to wait and watch the rewards of buying from there.....are a benefit to your pockets

But you have to know when to switch yourself off, and stop
