Thinking of getting one of those small hand held vacs. That will be multi tasking cleaning the carpet and leaving it to vac. to search.

Never mind Aidan you will recover. Think of the exercise to the spine. Bet the tongue gets a bit as well. Bet you cannot record that here !

it happens all the time to me as well spend not min,s looking but hrs and never to be found,in most instances ,

it must build up to max speed very quickly so when it hits the carpet, has the speed to bonce ,to unseen reaches,

or its Gregg little friend waiting, but in my case maybe the furry ones lucking aboutops:

I use a torch and my glasses to search through the carpet some dropped parts have been retrieved using this method others have disappeared forever but what I really enjoy is when you scratch build apart that's gone missing only for it to turn up weeks later when you are looking for something else but the biggest item/part I've lost is a1/72 horse from my Airfix royal artillery set didn't drop it it's just gone missing and have no clue to its whereabouts

Universal problem. I drop something every session. Like Polux I have an open bin nearby, not the wisest idea.

To find your missing bits. Use a vacuum cleaner, hand held if you like, and put a filter on the front of the nozzle. Vacuum away. Your part will appear sooner or later on the filter. Ensure adequate airflow through the filter or you will overheat your vacuum motor. A white filter,(tissue or similar) works well.

Didn't someone here lose the entire cockpit tub of a 1/32 'plane - only to find it some weeks later in another kit box?

I hate it when you search frantically, not being able to find it and swmbo walks past..."is this anything to do with you!?"...frustrating

That's happened to me with a stinking tail plane off a harrier. It ended up literally the same sort of distance where Aidan found his part

I have copyright to this solution . RAID the kitchen, look for the apron with bib that your wife wears and returned to the man hole, wear it all the time and your loss rate will fall dramatically. Cheers Derek

Or an old pair of HWMBO tights over the end of the nozzle. Just make sure she isn't wearing them at the time!

Yes you are right Derek. Just bought on Amazon a butchers apron £6. Nice blue and white stripes. Good for not loosing pieces although I bought mine mainly as I was wrecking trousers and shirts with paint.

Of course a few comments about being a butcher. How is the lamb today got any minced mince.

I found a lost photo-etch seat harness stuck to the dog's head, two days after I'd made a replacement.
