I just had a strange phone call!

Just got a call from some Asian sounding gentlemen informing me my computer was giving out warning signals and he needed me to delete some files to stop the problems , I asked him who he was and who he worked for , the answer was technical services, I asked again what company he said broadband , he then went on to give a list of all service providers

This seemed odd to me so I told him there was no problem with my PC and if it gets one I will contact my service provider

Another shyster trying to either get access to my computer or steal personal information

One Alan are you sure there is nothing wrong with your computer ? I have Norton which is a darn nuisance slowing down things but not had any problems.

Two I would have invited him around for a cup of tea and a chat.

I have had this phone call, it is to sell you a service. They access your computer and do a test then say there are faults etc, load of rubbish.

Absolute load of tosh. Tried it on me and I asked whether that was the linux laptop I was using, the chromebook, other laptop or dual boot desktop he was on about and given I do all the security and have been doing this for 20+ years whether he could provide expertise to match mine. He hung up. Shame.

So with Debs permission I say to them he doesn't live here any more but you can get hold of him on this number. I then give the number of the local crematorium for some reason we don't here from many of them that often.

This is a first for me usually it's a warning box on screen that tells you your computer is about to start world war 3 so you click it and then you get the sales pitch

My mom had a call about her partner with regards to an accident he had a couple of years previous, the company was saying that they had a client that wanted to make a claim against him, my mom said good luck he wasn't going to pay, when they insisted on speaking to him again she put me on the phone, they asked if I was the person I said no and they again asked to speak with him to which I informed them that he had passed away the year previous!

Laurie , do yourself a favour DUMP NORTON... it's still chugging along in old code, it's memory hungry... hence why your machine is lower than a dying snail..

Get something better like ESET... had it for 6 years, fast and sniffs out just about anything

Definitely agree there, I use a combination of Microsoft Security Essentials and malwarebytes both are free and together work well. Norton is a classic bloatware.

My neighbour gets those calls about once a month. She's in her 70s and has never owned a computer.

Had Norton for a number of years and have no complaints.

Any issues I have had have usually been because of user error.

Their customer back-up/help I have found to be really good.
