Only very few spots of the 40mhz band, but I suppose it is inevitable that charging (licence) will come back for hobby use sometime.

Radio Licencing is worth thousands of millions ukp to them. Even Radio Amateurs (whos forebears did most developemennt of radio) gotta pay.

So if they are giving the 40mhz band to phone compamies etc. What are we meant to do? I would imagine that our gear will be less than useless when mobile phones, wireless networks etc are clogging the airwaves.

Or do digital tx/rx sets get round this issue?Comment

They will be charging us to breathe very soon,as the airways get more and more clogged the fight will go on for control of the airwaves, the military have always taken a big chunk for their own use,as we speak we are being bombarded with these signals, especially from mobile phones, nobody really knows the damage that has been or is being done,so in effect we are paying to have our brains scrambled, but it is the price we have to pay also for the things we see as convenient to us in the modern world.Comment

I should have clarified my questions.

 1. Does anyone know if digital tx/rx sets negate interference from other radio sources?

 2. Are the government selling our particuler 40mhz slots?Comment

Yes,I also have and old Mac set.

Wasn't it fun to turn on the "trannie" in the evening when the CBers were on the air.

The screams could be heard for miles as the high pitched whistle came over the top of their transmissions.

tiger if your referring to the new digital systems available ( spektrum) they use the 2.4Ghz band, which coincidentally is also becoming very busy.

there are `seeking `sets , which require no crystals, on the tx or rx, they scan the ( in our case 40Mhz) band and once a suitable slot is found, the units then start to broadcast.

i beleive polk hobbies do a 8 ch set with scanning, for just over $200 with reciever on 40 Mhz band.
