Does modelling Greek military aircraft constitute spying? Remember the spotters arrested for writing down numbers? What would happen if suddenly all these Hellenic aircraft were seen in the gallery? Only kidding .....but it makes you think .Welcome to the forum . There are a lot of very friendly people here who cant wait to help and chat .Good luck

thanx for the replies, a few answers:

to duncan: actually I'm interested inplastic models, I used to model almost everything (from planes to tanks to figures) but for now I think I'll stick to airplanes.

to wonwinglo: with a lot of modelling shops I guess you can find here all big brands. Others which are more specialised (1/76 metal kits for wargames for example) you have to order. But the market is constantly growing so things are going better and better.

to pogo: I know such things occur from time to time but with the state of alertness the airforce is in unfortunately you can not avoid them. Remember we are in a state of "undeclared war " with the turkish air force so anybody taking pictures around military targets is bound to be suspicious... (last funny incident a couple years ago with a visiting french squadron (NATO squadron exchange). Some of their airplanes were mistaken as greek M-2000 and intercepted by turkish F-16s,leaving them wondering what happened!)

Pogo, you been around any NATO or RAF bases recently ? Dont even think of USAF bases in UK or Europe if you dont want along talk with side-armed non aviation enthusiasts. The Greek incident was blown-up by the UK press and caused by a certain amount of naiveity on behalf of the English spotters. Even Heathrow is difficult for civvy planes. I`ve been turned out of bed at 3am for parking the camper "near" (1.5 miles)but overlooking a RN submarine base in this green and pleasant land. Thanks for you answers Nick. Keep us informed of modelling in Greece.

thats just pathetic i think. did you see that program where that guy was trying to see the sub base in scotland, they wouldnt let him in (he said he was looking WMDs! so he tried going across a lake that seperated the base from the rest of the place on a little rubber dingy! i think it was that danny guy who set up his own country in his flat as well.

I consider myself a law abiding citizen even when it comes to spotting . I wont go where im not supposed to go under any cicumstances. I only log what i photograph. I have been escorted off Mildenhall by a very attractive female USAF police woman toting an M16. She was very friendly and chatty. I hadn't done anything except be the second to last person coming out of the base after one of the airshows.Having said that ive had my head up the tailpipe of a Mig 31 Foxhound and got black .
