Planes that would have attacked Warspite

Hi all I have an idea for a dio (assuming I get my birthday wish) I need to know what type of plane would have attacked hms Warspite and does anyone know of a documented battle which involved Warspite and planes, oh and obviously the plane has to be avaliable as a kit (scale don't matter) or if not avaliable as a kit a not to difficult plane to scratch build.

    Thanks in anticipation.

After seeing your thread i just had to go and google lol....

Swordfish floatplanes and from 1942 to 1943 Walrus flying boats..... (she could only carry 4 planes max)

I have to say though, what a bloody modern looking ship!

Really hard to believe she was commissioned in 1912!!!!

Whatever you have planned build wise, i'm in awe already tbh!

Such a long life and 2 world wars!

    Many, many options!

I know it's not a plane that would have attacked Warspite. But you could do Warspites Fairey Swordfish floatplane. As it was the first aircraft to sink a U boat during the war when it sank U64 off Narvik in April 1940.

My apologias, I read wrong lol

2 world wars, says what camo you chose, could be pretty much anything dependant on her range

Now Dave you have caused problems I don't have room but the prospect of building a sub (something I've never built but thought of buiding) and incorporating it into the dio I had in mind is almost impossible to deny.

HMS Warspite was attacked on several occasions from the air, most notably off Crete and later Salerno, both times by the Luftwaffe. I know on the latter occasion she was attacked by Fw 190 'Jabos' before being hit by a Fritz X smart bomb. I can easily look up which aircraft were used to drop the guided weapons.

            Edit: II/KG100 flying Do 217s

            Cheers

In addition to what Steve has provided, HMS Warspite was also hit by a single bomb on 10 January 1941 during Operation Excess. A big mixture of aircraft mentioned, including 18 He111, 43 Ju87, and 10 escorting Bf110.

              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Excess#10_January

Sad that she was scrapped after the Second World War, having served in nearly every theatre of British operations and of course with a distinguished service record from the First World War, most notably at Jutland.

Ok guys and gals back off hols I've ordered a 1/144 ju87 a 1/72 ju87 and a 1/144 bf110(the different scales are to give it perspective) my question is I have in my stash a 1/48 he109 could I use this in my dio(would it have attacked the warspite) if so how far away would I have to put it to keep the perspective right I am thinking 12" for the 1/44 from the Warspite 24" for the 1/72 so would 36" be ok for 1/48?

                    He 109 ?????

I think that's a typo. Do you mean Bf 109 or He 111, or maybe something else ?

                    Cheers

I don't think Bf 109s would have attacked the ship. They might have been present as an escort to the bombers, but I haven't checked (and can't from the Ally Pally).

                        Cheers

Hi all this dio is obviously going to have a lot of sea in it and I am hoping to have explosions of water going up the side of the Warspite from the dropped bombs, thing is I've never tried modeling water before let alone exploding water, any ideas?
