    Nigels new laptop

    Hiya all

Nigel (daddy) has got a new to him laptop and he has been waiting for it for like 5 weeks and today he found out that it was in chelmsford for the past 2 weeks so as you can guess he was livid. Now that he has recieved it he finds out that the hinges ave been broken and then repaired badly. im using the laptop atm and i have installed everthing on it for him considering it had nothing on it. The other thing is that he had been messaging him asking where it was and he said that he sent it which he had lied. we checked the system to see when windows had been installed and it was 3 days after he had said he had sent it. My dad complained to PayPal and found out he got sent over seas which is impossible considering it said that he lived in Birimingham. when he went to collect it the box was in S*** condition and has everything has been damaged. Also it said on the box that the sender lived in Athens so he was angry again. All this for a laptop so my friends dont always trust Ebay.

Well im sorry daddy that this has happened to you and i hope it suits your satisfaction after been cleaned and having software installed on it.

    Love you very much.

Charlotte, i consider myself somewhat a ebay pro, if you want get nigel or yourself to PM me and i can explain the options you have....ebays pretty good these days with stuff like this...

...of course if youve got everything in hand etc please ignore me, lol!

I hate people who lie and scam on ebay, utter W*****S, its really not fair on the good trustworthy ebayers! Not to mention the disapointment when youve been waiting for something for so long!

I'm afraid Ebay is not what it used to be. I have picked up some very rare stuff in the past and been very pleased but more recently I have come across some aggressive and arrogant sellers who seem to think you owe them thier living.

I have toned down my buying dramatically in recent months. I have also reported three instances of Phishing which I have heard absolutely nothing about since and when I was scammed in the past Ebay doesn't give a dam about protecting buyers. They are only interested in protecting sellers, not surprisingly, as that is where the money comes from.

They also seem to be actively encouraging more and more "Buy it now" cheap crap toys which is watering the good stuff down.

Even the Feedback system is a waste of time. Anyone who has the courage to give negative when it is due will almost certainly get the same back as a retaliatory thing so consequently people avoid giving negative when they should.

I bought a set of rub down markings and paid three pounds for the item and a pound for recorded first class postage. After repeated e-mails the item eventually arrived five weeks late second class. I gave negative as the service was crap and I got the same for no good reason whatsoever.

Shame as it had potential but greed, as always, got the better of them.

Whilst i echo everyone here i cant really say anything bad about ebay, even more so as i have a shop there! The ability to hold an "online boot fair" as i call it is still quite new and its the worlds largest growing market so credit where credits due they do have a lot on their hands!

Thats said its no excuse for treating people badly, Richard your right, they do give more protection to sellers, even more so to powersellers (our emails are answered within 24hours always).

I hear so many people say "ooo ebays not as good as it was"....now i just dont agree with this statement, yes its much harder to get a really cheap bargain but thats the essence of a growing market. When ebay was launched there were much fewer customers and thus less people to bid on each item, now that more people are present items will always sell for more! Great for sellers and bad for buyers!

Much like a bootfair, you get there at 6am and you can grab bargains, get there at 11am and most of the good stuffs gone because X% more people have had a chance to look at it.

I 110% agree about the negatives though, i wont ever neg somebody because im too scared of them neg'ing me and ruining my 100% feedback! Many of my friends however have been neg'ed automatically, the customer never contacted them to sort out the situation and just leaves a bad mark, this is really where the bad taste is left as theres nothing the seller can do about it!

Phishing is evil in my opinion, any auction that has a "hidden bidders id" method will never get my bid! I just dont trust people who have to hide their buyers id's! Trust on ebay is important!

Nigel- whats the feedback score and rating of the seller out of intrest? Also, i know your just as geeky with pcs as me but if u need a hand, some parts, advice or anything like that just PM/MSG/EMAIL me and ill get on the case ASAP.

My reasoning for thinking that Ebay is not as good as it was mainly stems from the fact that there are more and more cheap crap toys sold at a "Buy it now" price flooding the thing and the quality, worthwhile, rare items are getting fewer all the time.

The RC Model Boats section used to be around 10 - 12 pages until a few weeks ago it suddenly expanded to 23 pages and 50% of it is "Buy it now" stuff which is on for up to about 90 days. Ebay was upposed to be an on line auction site but it is less and less of an auction and more and more of an outlet for cheap crap toys by sellers who can't be bothered to answer E-mails and who certainly won't give you feeback until they have received it, if at all. I find this very manipulative as they will always respond to what they get and certainly not an objective opinion of the buyers performance during the sale.

As far as I am concerned the buyers part of the deal is long over before the sellers is and the seller should do the decent thing and give the open and honest feedback first. To many of them can't be bothered and too many won't do it first because they want to preserve thier own positive score.

I have been a regular buyer now for just over three years and I can say with out any doubt in my mind that Ebay is not what it used to be.

I am afraid that seller such as yourself Squiffy with interesting, rare and sought after items are on the decline. I have had so many bad experiences now that I won't even bid on an item if it is for sale by a Power Seller as they are by far and above the worst of the lot.

As for support, I have gone through the whole lengthy process of reporting a bum deal to Ebay to be told weeks later that they couldn't do anything about it. They are so uninterested in protecting buyers that it takes you forever to find out how to report a bad seller and then all you get are automated responses that you can't reply to.

I completely agree except for the point above! Im a powerseller, does that mean im the worst of the lot? To become a powerseller you must obay the ebay rules very strictly. You must take over £750 a month, have no more than 2 negative feedbacks and answer emails within a set time frame. The powerseller scheme is there to show buyers that your a trustworthy seller, obviously this goes hand in hand with feedback!

I soooooooooo agree on the cheap crappy toys, luckily theyve not really hit the kit pages but there are now hundrads of Hong Kong sellers bulk uploading tamiya kits for silly prices but with 3 week delivery times and huge postage costs!

The RC catorgaries as you say as just a joke now, Planes, there so many of those cheapy park flyers than break in 2 minutes and boats terrible market toys! A good tip is when searching is to click the "auction only" tab at the top, that way all the stupid buy it nows arent shown!

As for reporting people to ebay, they are still so far behind with this, its the same old story i hear day in day out, some little git scams somebody and theres rarely anything action on ebays behalf!

Nigel- Was that £50 via a charge back? Just if youve not done this its a good way to get your cash back!

I have to stick up for hongkong cowboy. Got a Tamiya RC kubelwagon off him, half the price over here including postage. Bought on the Monday got it on the following Monday. I also know a couple of guys got KT's and Tiger 1's for £300 inc delivery just as fast. One things for sure the £450 asking price for a KT or T1 in the UK is totally extortionate. Even across the pond they are around the £250 mark. I guess it's just a matter of choosing a vendor with masses of feedback and its all positive. My first purchase on fleabay was a bad one and all my own stupid fault. All purchases since have been good ones. (even the second KT munter at least i got the radio gear thrown in, that made up for the monstrous build)

Squiffy, I am well aware that you are a Power Seller, you are on my favourites page!!!

Unfortunately I learn by experience and you are the exeption to the rule. I really really hope that you are successfull in your business as you certainly deserve to be but I fear that Ebay's credibility is on the decline.

Don't forget that Hong Kong Cowboy can sell his goods at the price he does because he breaks the law!

LOL Richard, dont be buying anything off ebay from me, just PM me, cant have u paying those prices!!!

I think your right about ebays credablity on the decline, i can tell that from the interaction between my buyers, theres much fewer 100+ feedback buyers than there was two years ago! I think you can still have a good bargain on ebay, you just have to look so hard these days!

One thing you might or might not of noticed is the price on part worn rubber on ebay! Im trying to get some BT014's for the Storm but was shocked to see tyres with like a mm of tread left selling for over £50. Also people seem to go out roundabout surfing, scrub down the chicken strips and then sell them as "pro race tyres". I was thinking about doing that with mine, but then burnouts and rubber burning was more of an appeal!

Hongkong cowboy is a seller on ebay from Hong Kong Richard, he sells mostly Tam and Trump stuff at silly prices. I have actually been in contact with Tamiya over this issue....

I see the influx of HK sellers on ebay and the net to be a large danger to the UK retail market. I wrote a letter to Glyn, the MD of Tamiya in the UK and he reponsed quickly and very amicably. My letter stated that, in laymens terms, i was concerned foreign sellers were offering the same kits i have at a retail price less than i can purchase them trade.

Its not right of me to detail the whole converstion here but the long and short of it was that he completely agreed and was having a meeting with other TamiyaEurope members about this, and the general concenus seemed to be that Tamiya themselves didnt know where these HK guys are getting their stock! Not sure what i think of this, but an intresting insite none the less...

Exuse my spelling tonight, its the wine, honestly!
