Superglue again: mine sets in the bottle lid.

I have Roket Hot by Deluxe Materials, thin and fast setting (up to 3 seconds). It works (or did when it was fresh). The cap consists of two parts: a spout with a circular disc at its bottom which rests on the lip of the bottle opening; and a long thin cylindrical tube (call it "the cover"), closed at its end, with a threaded cap at its bottom which fits over the circular disc on the spout and screws on to the bottle, so keeping the nozzle sealed.

The problem is that after a few months the nozzle stuck permanently to the cover so that the nozzle cannot be used. The glue can now only be used by unscrewing the cover (with its nozzle trapped inside it) to open the top of the bottle and insert an applicator (a needle eye etc.) and then applying the glue to the model.

The glue is now aged and does not work so I am looking for another fast setting thin super glue whose nozzle works properly. Any recommendations please? I saw one at the 2013 Telford show but have lost its leaflet. It had a very fine nozzle which might work.

Until my superglue aged I applied it by an applicator (as mentioned above) which worked. If there is no product whose nozzle does not block, my second approach is to get a simple bottle with a cap and no nozzle and continue to use the applicator method. Any recommendation on that please?

I have searched model shops and the |Internet and this forum.

I haven't found any Steve that last more than a few months once opened, they react quickly with the air, even when you think you have sealed them. I make sure I have a good supply for the build I need, and if it has been shelf stored for a few months bin it and replace. I have heard that putting it in the fridge helps but this could just a models myth.

Zap is a good one Steve , it comes in a bottle with the same set up and if you wipe the end after every use and keep it upright it won't set as quick and it lasts longer

Have to agree with Al regarding Zap, I use that and it does seem to last slightly longer, however, if you have had it more than three months I would think about replacing any that have been opened.

I have used numerous brands of super glue and as you say a high percentage cure in the bottle once opened but this one I have been using for over a year and it bonds in seconds I apply glue via a cocktail stick I picked up two of these from a car boot sale but as soon as this one runs out I will be getting more of it via the web hopefully . The secret is to wipe the end so there is no glue on it. Close firmly and keep it cool and dark.

I have a bottle that I use for over a year now and it still works. I may take a little longer to cure, but thats fine by me.

Wipe with something moistened in a nail varnish remover containing acetone.

Even better than 'cool and dark' which is sound advice from Ian, is the fridge which is cold and dark. Chemical reactions go slower at lower temperature and your glue 'going off' is a chemical reaction. I used to get mine in the fridge but can't get it past SWMBO anymore.

              Cheers

As Steve says, keeping it in the fridge helps a lot.

I use cheap pound shop carded superglue, for the simple reason if I forget to refrigerate after use I'm throwing away penny's worth of glue instead of pounds worth of name brand.

It works fine for plastic model making, I dispense a few drops onto anything handy on the bench and apply it with a needle held in a pin vice, do be careful where you leave it on the bench though, I've ruined paint jobs by gluing a part then sitting the model straight on the spot I decanted the glue.

When finished decanting, wipe the lid and reseal and sit it upright on a shelf of the fridge, it should last ages

Thanks folks. I have ordered Zap and will wipe the bottle and lid carefully every time I use it, and will probably use a needle applicator so as to avoid the nozzle blocking.

Used a few types Steve. The best I have found is Power Drop. John has this in the shop

There are many types for different uses.

On the use of SG I have being using a plastic tip which fits on the nozzle. This add on has a long thin tube tip which allows just a small amount of glue to be administered and accurately.

I keep this add on all the time ie the without the screw cap on. Approx 50percent of times the tube does no block with glue. If it does then just cut of the top millimetre off.

I have a different type but John stocks Micro tips which look as though they will do the trick.
