I gave up alcohol 10years ago having already had my fair share and some wild nights out after noticing it was taking my body longer to recover from my hangovers and I haven't touched I drop since and I feel a lot healthier and wealthier for it.smoking cigarettes packed in three years ago and I am now vaping which I hope is a better alternative.to help myself I used ecigs and patches and a dirty ashtray to look at and smell and found the 1st few hours and days the hardest but once over these it became easier and having smoked 40 a day for to many years to remember there's no way now I'd ever go back and don't even think about it and all my spare money from not smokingand drinking now brings me greater pleasure so stray strong be brave lots of willpower required but trust me it will be one of the best things you ever did good luck cheers John

Keep positive, you know you can do it.

I lost my father to lung cancer, and both my mother and my wife (both heavy smokers) suffer from COPD and not a nice thing to have (or see)

I only smoked when I was younger, but loved my spirits. I gave up drinking 3 years ago and not really looked back

It will be worth it in the end. GO FOR IT!

Hi, tone i am a pharmacist so know that most chemists offer nhs funded smoking cessastion. Plus there are lots of sattelite smoking centres about. You just need to google it. Even if you don't quit, just cutting the amount you smoke by half would be a major improvement physically and financially. A product i recommend is niquitin lozenges a lot of ex smokers i know swear by it. Good luck, Saj

Good luck tone , just try and focus on how much money you would have spent on fags and beer , gives you a reason for wanting to do it. A guy who i work with quit six months ago and hes got an app for his phone that adds it up every day how much he would have spent on fags - its running at nearly £1500 at the moment !!!! If being three grand a year better off and feeling a lot healthier isnt a good reason to stick with it I dont know what is !! cheers tony

It only gets easier - sometimes rather slowly though - from now on Tone. Stay with it!

The booze I can leave. never really bothers me if its there or not. Maybe a couple of beers a week in the summer is the closest it has ever been to a habit.

The smokes.... Not so good. I had given up once but fell in again. The last time I tried the wife actually told me to go buy some ciggies. (Apparently I was a grumpy Barstool, or some thing like that).

In Denmark if you want to give up, the Doctor just tells you to go buy some nicotine gum- Did that (and paid more than a pack of smokes). Spent the day throwing up and feeling like I had been sucking a dog end.

So still smoke. The fun begins later. the place I work will be banning smoking any where on the property...So I will have to try again I guess.

Good luck with your bid to be free of the nails and wally water.
