Relax this is not a Bible Bashing thread...!! but more a query if you have gotten anyone new into the hobby....and what were the results.
A friend of mine at work is into aviation and has been for a while, He flies the Planes and Heli's on the Microsoft Flight Sims on his pc at home. His son is on an RAF Sponsored Pilot Scheme at Leeds University and has quite a few hours under his belt now in Full size Flying.
My mate has always been interested in R/C Helicopters and he knows I have 3 of them, so I have had plenty question and answer sessions with him about them. He said he fancied one...something I have heard many times but never actually seen anyone get around to buying one.
Well, my mate has gone through a Divorce recently so has a lot of spare time on his hands now and the house to himself. Just before going on 2 weeks hols, up came the subject of Helicopters again, he wanted an electric R/C but with collective pitch. I recommended the ESKY Honeybee 2 and we had a scour on e-bay for one. Came up with a good package for £130 which included spare blades, Flight sim for the PC to practice on, training undercarriage and even a spare battery.....everything was in this package and it is all brand new !!!
So whilst on hols he has actually bought one, I saw him last week back at work and he is having a lot of fun flying it in his lounge just trying to learn the hover......from what I have heard from him, he is enjoying it immensely. I have answered a few of his basic queries about certain things on it, like what does the gain on the gyro do etc...so he is happy now.
And to make it even better, he told me he could fly the Robinson R22 on the MS Flight Sim no problem but always had a problem with the bigger Bell 206L (JetRanger)...always used to take off and then topple over sideways with it and crash...!!
Now he has had hands on experience with his electric R/C Helicopter....he can now fly the 206L on the sim !!!.
He is looking to find somewhere like a village hall or sports hall now where he can fly his r/c heli without dinking the coffee table or the tv lol.
So pretty much a successful convert there now, he is having a lot of fun with this hobby and is even talking of moving up to larger i/c engined heli's once he's mastered this one.
Always nice to see it work out that way.
If you are interested, the item number on e-bay was 6043834510 they will no doubt still be on sale.
Regards.....Mark
