Certainly will not forget them plus all those who then came home to have to rebuild this country. To rebuild lives. To face broken, in some cases, marriages and friendships.
As said in one WW11 film "its the war".
Also to thank those who looked after their children while the men were away. They must have been at their wits end worrying about their children. Yet that did not ever come through. When I lived through the war my mother did a splendid job for my sister and I as the situation never worried me.
After I could read that changed. I read of the Korean War and that concerned me. I remember getting the paper early one morning and reading the head lines. I ran up stairs and woke up my mother and father to tell them that the Korean War had finished I was so excited.

I am off to a Remembrance concert tonight in Dover. I was chairman of the committee that organised the local Armed Forces Day event in the town which, for the 11.11.11 year we started doing remembrance concerts as well. Pressure of work meant I stood down from the committee two years ago but I still support and sponsor them. A nice lot of dosh being raised for forces charities still....
Yes, we will remember them.Comment

my nan passed away last year and I still miss the stories she would tell about being bombed out of her home and having to keep moving in and around London with my dad and my uncle as small children when my granddad was away fighting in the north Atlantic. even today with all the discovery channels and the documentary's its still hard to comprehend the hardship civilians had to go through let alone those who were away fighting on the front line. so this weekend I will raise a glass for all those, including them that stayed at home to give us a future where we can voice our opinions and views without fear.Comment
