    Club show table or not

Hi all a few months ago I joined the IPMS Rivenhall club, which is my local club.

Well I had decided (since its nearly finished) to donate the warspite dio to my local library but my local club says I should display it on our clubs next show table.

It is one thing to display it in the local library where the only people who are likely to see it are primary school pupils who will probably just think the lit explosions are cool, to displaying it on a table along with other models which are supremely well made, and for modelers who are leagues and bounds ahead of my ability to see, not to mention more knowledgeable, for instance there is a young 16 yr old in the club who, incidentally is a very good modeler, asked me what caliber her main guns were and I had to shrug my shoulders and say I dunno liked the look of the ship so bought the kit, felt really stupid, I mean that's a fairly fundamental question about a kit I've spent weeks building.

So, I am setting up this poll and will do whatever the result of the poll is.

Ooh that's a hard one Ken as the actress said to the bishop , on one hand you have enthused child seeing a great piece of history in minueture and may even decide to take up the hobby and on the other you get loads of modellers gawking at it at a show

I can't vote mate as it's unfair to deprive either of a fantastic piece of work

Display it Ken, one think I have learned is that there will always be a few that are nerds or look down on a piece-thing is they really are a few-the majority will see it and enjoy it.

I have entered shows and got knocked back on a piece, mainly by judges. I have also entered into local shows and my stuff has gone down a storm!

I now don't worry and just do it, if they like it great, if not tough.

Warspite: Queen Elizebeth class, speed 24 knots, main armament: 15 inch. A little tip is to find the info and print on a card and place the card with the model.

I would say go for it Ken, I to have been in this situation I have a show coming up in January & been asked if I want to show any of my builds, there are 8 category's

so I had a look at what I have & I will put two I each category.

Your builds are way ahead of mine but what I say is "DONT SHOW WONT KNOW"

All the members of the club are what I call geeks & rivet counters but I will swallow my pride & give it a go.

            Hope this helps.

I would leave it in the Library.

Why for me. Among a lot of other models it will only get a cursory glance.

In a library people and youngsters (huh youngsters are people !) will stop and study the detail. Will you get a herd of youngsters around your club table looking and studying your bit part at a club ? My bet is not !

There are also, like me, a section of people mostly men who frequent the WW11 and other military parts of the library. In the Library you can bet these types will study the detail. Also get two of this specie and they will chat and exchange info..

My opinion that your scene will get more attention, studying of detail in the library.

But then it is not my model And not my problem

Actually if the Library had offered to take a model of mine and show it off then that would be an honour gratefully received. I would bask in that sunshine and also visit the Library more to hear the comments.

Not voting, tut, as it is your decision not mine Ken.

                Per Ardua

We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no ones been

Well you've shown it on here haven't you? And aren't there modellers here who are "leagues and bounds ahead of my ability" - to use your own words.

So what's wrong with taking it to your club, then on to the library when your mates have had a chance to see it and talk to you about it?

Thanks for all the comments, gern as we all know photos can hide a lot and of course you only photo what you consider to be the best bits also I think of all the guys and gals on here as friends which is a lot different to showing to complete strangers, some of who will be very critical of your work.

Go for it mate, I remember when Andy Ron and I showed our stuff at the ellesmere port boat club show, don't know how Ron and Andy were feeling but I was a wreck and it turned out ok, so GO FOR IT. It can go to the library after the show.

Point taken Ken, though I still reckon you should take it to your club - you got nothing to be scared of. There may be better modellers around but you do some pretty good work yourself.

Anyway, if you do find out they are a bunch of nit-picking rivet counters and not friendly and supportive like us here, the sooner you know the better!

Should not worry about that Ken. Took a long time to show my work here and how stupid a wait was that. Nice thing is club members can see other members progress.

So which ever it is or both just go for it.
