Well well and not a pun.
You all live in one of the most sophisticated societies in the world. Our health is one of the best in the world on average even better than the most wealthy in the world the USA.
My grandfather died at 65. My father in law at 68. My own father at my age. I can expect to live at 76 for another 10 years. Some of you younger ones to near a 100. I am tested regularly for blood, liver kidneys cholesterol and among other prostrate. I am molly coddled.
If you want better all you need do is to tell your MP you want to pay more in taxes or up VAT.
The other side of the world. Sierre Leone. Ebola families decimated children left parent less, Husbands losing their wives and vie versa. Villages decimated. And we moan dear me. What have you given personally ? Well this country more than with Australia than most of the others and in Europe all put together. Nurses and Doctors putting their own life on the line and we moan about having to wait at the doctors or the hospital.
Two Ebola nurses, brave of the brave, return to England with Ebola and they have the finest treatment available in the world. We gave them that as what ever you believe we have one of the finest health systems in the world. Ask about the other nations and they are jealous.
So please let us not moan about the inadequacies praise what the Health Services are doing for us with the money we allocate to them. I mean WE as the government does not have some bottom less pit it is the money we give for them to spend.

Don't get me wrong I know we have the best health service in the world bar none. It is being run down by bureaucracy too many chiefs and not enough indians, there's 6 managers for this and 7 managers for that and then managers to manage the managers, then there's the pointless number crunching to save money which cost more money to implement than it ever saves, then there's the paperwork which is supposed to save work but actually causes more, oh and we better have a few managers to control that. No we do have the best nurses, doctors and medical staff in the world it's the managers and clerical workers ruining it.Comment

Well I must be the only one who disagrees about the NHS
Two points I'd like to bring up
1 the NHS is not free we all pay something into it and just because something is free does not make it the best
2 for the past thirteen years I've been in and out of hospitals from the Midlands down and can honestly say it's on last legs in fact if it was a race horse they would have put two bullets in it by now
To fix this you have to stop keeping the facts from the public and do something about them
They are stop throwing money at it this is one of the reasons it's failing ( more people want to be in it for the pay and not the care ) stop the red tape and do away with trusts and so forth and most of all stop using it as a political weapon, all the politicians should put their differences aside and do what's best after all every single one of them have failed the NHS so own up and put it right !Comment

Organising patient times, organising doctors consultants for each operation, booking the operating theatres. Organising cleaning and that stores are available for all things in the hospital. Budgets that is a nightmare. We need Doctors and Surgeons on the front line for patients not stuck in paper work. The police are a prime example. Paper work does not stop crime.
I doubt if any of us know if there are to many or not enough managers. The only person who could tell that is a dedicated person without side who knows the business. For me I would rather have one manager more than less to ensure Surgeons, Doctors and Nurses carry out the dedicated job for which they were trained.

I've worked all my life as an adult paid every tax there is and vat on everything I've ever purchased.i don't agree that our health service is the best in the world. My father-inlaw died just before Christmas from cancer is treatment from the beginning of his battle with the cancer to the end could have and should have been a lot better. My own parents have had dealings with the hospital over recent years and I once had to refuse to take my mother home from A&E and insist she be admitted as she was suffering severe stomach pains two days later after closer examination she went into surgery and her medical problem was resolved on the operating table.God only knows what would have happened if I had listened to the consultant and just took her home as instructed. My father had problems the second half of last year and he kept getting fobbed off by his doctor until a nurse finally visited his house took one look at him and called an ambulance he spent 12 weeks in hospital and thankfully as now made a full recovery I can't thank the nurse enough but want to punch the doctor.i know there are some great doctors n nurses out there and some really bad managers who are making a bad contribution to NHS also the overwhelming numbers now visiting A&E as a result of not being able to visit there own doctor.on TV on this morning the doctor was telling everyone to talk with there local pharmacist about their medical problems. We could have all the best doctors in the world but if you can't get to see one then in my opinion we are no better than a third world country.Comment

Linus Pauling wrote a book in the 70's which he claimed vit C helped prevent Colds, this is where most of us get the impression Orange juice is best for us. Recently the Cochrane Library did trials with over 22,000 people and concluded Vit C had no effect on preventing colds, the only benefit was that Vit C help shorten the length of the cold and severity.
I tend to get 1 or 2 bad colds a year and as I suffer from High Blood pressure and diabetes the only thing I can take is Paracetaol and just sweat it out

When Carrie was pregnant, that's my good lady wife and used to be modeller we had been going to appointments at our local hospital which I shall not name. We had an appointment for the 20 week scan, on arrival which was in plenty of time for the actual appointment we presented ourselves at the main desk only to be told that we had called to cancel our appointment, which was cap so after getting into it with the administration Clark and threatening to complain she booked us in. Now I later foundate out that the administration people had over booked on appointments and cancelled ours with so much as a by your leave. Now after the scan you are supposed to see a consultant to discuse the scan which in our case they were unable to do, so we had to wait 48 hours for a consultants appointment. So during the all important scan we were informed that my daughter hand multisytic kidneys which means she has two smaller kidneys on each side but the upper left one had syet. Now my wife suffers from depression and severe OCD, and being told by a midwife that our child had a potentially dangerous problem but could not tell us how severe it was, so after informing her of carries health problems the hospital refused to book us in to see the consultant instead we had to wait 2 days and at the time that might as well have been 3 months for carrie, I have never seen her so bad as I did in that very long 48 hours, the way we had been treated from start to finish in 9 monthe was disgraceful and disrespectful.
