Ok TOTALLY HONEST OPINION HERE so be warned:

Canterbury store, about 4 months ago.

As you know i try to stay away from high street stores etc but had to have a scanner that day so was forced to go shopping.

The canterbury store is dirty, and run by what i can only describe as monkeys in an argos uniform. After very rudly being told i wasnt aloud to park my bike outside the store (despite doing this at every other location in town) i spend 45mins in the store trying to get my scanner.

It turns out that none of the items in the catalog were in stock and i had to goto the dreaded pc world! (more money to the dixons group then). Not one sorry or anything from the staff, just a "urg...naaa we dont have any mate" ....i expect all my friends to call me mate but not shop staff!

That was my last visit and i wasnt best pleased to say the least. However for a polar opposite, the one in leicester was great, super friendly staff, in and out in a few minutes! (although this store was also pretty dirty)

I last visited the Sunderland store about four months ago, but just to se if they had any camera's on display.

Early experience of the same store (some years ago) was poor, the place was bedlam, no carrier bags or even a string handle on larger boxes (we don't all drive cars). Cheap? yes, but not cheerful.

Subsequent experience, about two years ago, quiet time, no problems with the item ordered, relatively quick turnaround. Any queries pre purchase seems to cause panic, some staff good, others very poor. The general level of staff does seem to have improved in the last two years, perhaps because they now employ people and not children.

We have 2 in Halifax, the one I go to the most is Greenmount Retail Park, A because it's an Extra store and B it's the easiest one to park at.

Most of the time the staff look like they would rather be somewhere else and serving you is really a chore, never any smiles and "how you doing?" just call out a number stamp your ticket while talking to their mate about what they did last night or what they are doing tonight, once the ticket it stamped it's "thanks " still no smile, but before you get to that stage there's the wait, even if the store is empty you still have a wait, even when you can see your item on the conveyor belt it still stops there until they have finished talking to their mates again.

Apart from the endless waiting I don't think it's much different to any other high street store.

Never had a problem with Argos. My last visit was at Christmas. So incredibly long wating for the goods to get from storage to collection point. I guess that's the only downside with Argos. Doesnt seem to matter which store or if it's busy or quiet that "waiting for the dude in the back to find your stuff" bit is always the worst bit.

I share the same experiences of the one in Halifax as John. The staff are indifferrent and uncaring and have no time for the customer.

The wait is ridiculous, the catalogues are frequently missing pages and you are doing well if you can find a pencil.

As for asking any question about any item technical or otherwise that should be posted in the joke section.

I stopped going there a long time ago.
