I got hold of some Lego Star Wars kits a couple of years ago for a ridiculously silly price. I spent some time and a few quid finding missing parts - then sold the now-complete kits for lots and lots!
Pennies are tight so I thought I'd try to repeat it. I found some incomplete sets on ebay and bought them - not for silly cheap prices - but allowing for buying extra parts, they were cheap enough for me to be able to make a few quid once I'd completed them.
The four sets I bought, from different sellers, have over 500 parts each. All have about 30 parts missing, most of which I have found and ordered.
NOTE. This does not include the Minifigs which are a whole different marketing issue.
Guess what. All four have the two rarest parts missing which can't be sourced from regular suppliers!
Bearing in mind the Lego inventory now holds well in excess of 50000 parts in over 140 different colours, my first question is, what are the odds of those specific pieces going missing on all four sets?
My second question of course is: does anyone know of any companies that specialise in rare Lego parts?
